My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Shirley and I am a 6-7 year old, 18 lb. female beagle that needs to find another new home. I was found as a stray and taken to a shelter in South Carolina. I was rescued by Penny Angels and placed in a foster home for approx. 6 weeks. I traveled up to New Jersey on March 18 and was adopted that very same day, but things just didn’t work out for me. I was not crated in my new home, got into some mischief, and had a few potty accidents. Apparently, those things were ‘deal breakers’, so I will be coming back to Penny Angels on March 25. Believe it or not, most dogs don’t instinctively know the difference between ‘right’ and ‘wrong’… they need to be taught those things (just like children). Sometimes training takes a little extra time and patience. I don’t think that I was given enough time to show my owner how good I could be. Oh well, that’s all behind me now and another adventure awaits me. My next mission is to sniff out my new FOREVER home!

My foster mom took great care of me and wanted you to know some things about me: “Shirley was found with an injured right eye that had to be removed. She tested positive for heartworms and has completed her heartworm treatment. She is now on monthly heartworm and flea preventative. She is super friendly and LOVES people, including children. She gets along well with other dogs, though prefers to be your favorite lap dog. She will definitely seek your attention! She loves to snuggle with people and other dogs. She wouldn’t mind having another doggie friend or even kids in the home that want to play with her. It would be best to keep her crated when you are not home so that she doesn’t get into any mischief. Even though she is an adult dog, she has the energy and antics of a puppy. She is so cute, but she is a very busy beagle! Her motto is: sleep hard, play hard, chow down, and then REPEAT!

“Shirley started learning how to walk on a leash before she arrived in Rescue. She was able to keep her crate clean for up to 8 hours during the last week that she was with me. She learned how to use the dog door at my house and seemed to catch on to the "go potty" command, but she will need to learn the rules in your home. She has to be let out on a regular schedule AND you need to make sure she does her business when she's out. She loves going outside to sniff, roll, play, and bury treasures. In general, she is not a huge barker. She will bay at times, though, but usually when she is excited. Shirley is a happy & active girl and she would be a wonderful addition to your happy & active family!”

Come to Petsmart on Saturday if you would like to meet me! If you are interested in making me a part of your forever family, please fill out an application and submit it to Penny Angels.
