My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Maude" is a beautiful 1½-yo spayed longcoat female GSD who is sweet, affectionate and playful. She weighs about 75 lbs. Both of Maude's parents are AKC-registered.

Maude is friendly with everyone she meets and though she does alarm bark when people are at the door, she's all tail wags when they come in. She hasn't been around children yet, but both Maude's owner and I are confident that Maude will be good with children of all ages.

Maude is fine with other dogs, though she initially puts on a display of faux dominance. In fact, Maude is more on the submissive side. Though it took her awhile to build up the confidence to interact with the greeter dogs at GSRSV's facility, she did fine with them overall. (See the video elsewhere on this page of Maude taking a short walk with some of the dogs.) Maude would benefit from more socialization with other dogs.

Maude is great with her owner's cat--they are best of friends. A home with cats will be welcome for Maude.

Maude is very much a house dog and is well behaved inside. She's pretty much a couch potato except when she's playing fetch or going on walks. Maude can be trusted alone in the house for hours and will "go potty" on command.

Maude is OK on leash, though she does pull somewhat without the use of a "Gentle Leader." She is reactive towards some--bit not all--dogs that she sees when on walks. She also has a habit of jumping up on her owner; once adopted, Maude would benefit from a basic obedience course. She enjoys going for car rides and is a good passenger.

Maude loves to play fetch and soccer. She's quite skilled at catching a ball thrown high in the air. She also loves plush toys--she has several that she knows by name!

Maudes' owner Bailey purchased her from a breeder at 6 wks old. Though Bailey is very attached to Maude, changes in her family dynamic are forcing her to seek a new home for Maude. Bailey is only 21 yrs old, and her mother is moving in with her parents to take care of them. Bailey will need to find a place on her own by June, and realizes that at this stage in her life she will have less and less time to spend with Maude. With Maude's best interests in mind, Bailey sought out GSRSV's assistance in rehoming Maude.

GSRSV evaluated Maude on March 23 and is placing her as a "Program Dog." This means that GSRSV is placing Maude through its adoption program while her owner continues to care for her.

Maude is located in Natomas. Her adoption fee is $260.
