ARE OUR DOGS HOUSE-TRAINED? Yes, most are paper/pad trained, BUT NOT at YOUR HOUSE - Most are pee-pad trained and some with a doggie door. However, ALL dogs will have to be re-trained at their new home, due to a new sleeping and feeding schedule. This is not just for rescue dogs, ANY dog going to a new home will have to be re-trained!
Do our male dogs mark? Yes, they will for the first few days at a new home-

About Southern Shih Tzu & Toy Breed Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Southern Shih Tzu and Toy Breed Rescue is based in Alabama. We do rescue the good ole fashion way- We rescue dogs from kill shelters and puppy mills and place them in thoroughly screened forever homes- We believe there is a home for every dog in need of a home, we just have to find the family willing to open their hearts and home to that dog. We are a 501c3 non-profit charity and all volunteer organization-

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a facility in your area, so you can only visit Southern Shih Tzu and Toy Breed Rescue on the internet. JUST LIKE 95% of the dogs in the North- Our dogs are fostered in the south, so when they're adopted they are transported directly to their new home- Going from our foster home to your home is the most healthy and safe way to adopt, avoiding multiple transfers causing stress and exposing dogs to possible disease of unknown people and shelters/parking lots.

Please be careful when adopting from parking lots- there's a lot of unethical rescue practices these days- some dogs even come directly from rural southern shelters, with little or no vet care at times-

Our Adoption Process...

We are very selective when placing our dogs. OUR goal is to have successful forever adoptions, by matching you with a dog that fits your family needs, as well as our dog's needs. First Step in the process is to submit an online adoption application! Home visits are done at our discretion.
