Facts about Dasher

  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)

Dasher was found abandoned in the Town of Goshen about 2 years ago. He had tested positive for Heartworm and that may have been why he was abandoned. Fortunately he was in the beginning stages and we treated him, and he has been fine. Dasher is a great dog, but decides whom he likes. He appears to like some dogs, but we feel would be better off as an only pet and with a single person or older married couple - no children, unless maybe older teen angers. We always suggest some training sessions with a trainer and Dasher is a smart dog, so we know would benefit and do well. We don't know where he came from and he's great with everyone at the shelter, but investing in some training sessions is always a smart investment with your new pet and would be with Dasher also. Maybe plan on a walk with one of our employees if you think Dasher might be a good match. A great dog for the right person. Definitely reminds us of Old Yeller. Beautiful boy.

About Goshen Humane Society, Inc.

About Our Shelter...

We are a small no-kill cat and dog shelter. We raise over 70% of what it costs us to survive. We have volunteers however we do have a regular staff that works 7 days a week - all part timers. Our physical building has been in existence for 14 years. Before that GHS worked on a foster care system. We spay/neuter ALL animals before leaving, except for those with medical conditions that it would endanger their lives to do so. We try to educate the public that instead of sending their animals to shelters to exhaust all other possibilities. We also try to educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering. We are always looking for committed volunteers to work with our animals and to help fundraise throughout the year.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have events throughout the year, however the best place to see our animals is at our shelter located at 44 Police Drive in Goshen, NY. We are presently open to the public Thursday - Tuesday 11:00-3:00pm. We are closed to the public on Wednesdays. You can also see pictures and bios on our website, FB, and PETFINDER & PETESTABLISHED.

Our Adoption Process...

Fees are on our website and can vary based on age, breed and what expenses we incur. Must submit an application for a cat or dog and provide Veterinary and personal references. Dog adoptions take longer so that we make sure the fit is right and adopters understand the commitment. If we have multiple applications, it may take longer. Important to give your Veterinarian and personal references the "heads up" that we will be contacting them. If Veterinary reference is very good, we may not need to contact references. In some cases a home visit may be required.
