My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zak would be such a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for that loyal and loving lap dog. Zak is just 9 - 12 months old and 14 lbs ...such a perfect age and size to love to hike the mountain trails or have fun in the park. Zak is so portable that he can be a full-time best friend...accompanying his guardians everywhere a small and wonderful dog is allowed.

Zak was a last-minute save for us...he would have been euthanized in a dismal Kansas shelter if kind rescuers hadn't stepped up. But how could they not have? This little dog is just so awesome with his whole life lying in front of him...a life in which he can bring so much joy to a special family. Zak, as a young guy is a blank slate waiting to learn about the world. With positive guidance and socialization out in the community, he will be a well-behaved and very bonded best friend.

Zak is an energetic guy who loves play and fun. When it's time to settle down, Zak is an all-time snuggler and will cuddle his way into any heart. He may be a bit shy at the Colorado transport since rehoming is challenging for any pup...but with a new family that is about love and nurturing, Zak will absolutely shine.

We envision Zak with either a retired couple or individual...he would be overjoyed with the time he could spend in their company. It's not that Zak is a needy or whiny guy...he just loves the company of his humans who respect him for all his wonderful traits.

Zak likes children and enjoys playing with them...but we would only be open to older kids who can be gentle and understanding that Zak only weighs 14 lbs and needs soft and kind handling. For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside in the beautiful Colorado scenery...Zak would love nothing more than to share the experience. He is always up for a walk..fascinated by the activity around him. He breathes in the air...so happy to be free of the dismal shelter environment. Then...maybe his favorite part...it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed or couch beside his favorite people.

Zak appears to be a non-shedding guy (although we would never swear to it). Schnauzers are considered by some be be a great breed for those with allergies. Zak will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat cottony-soft and matt-free.

Zak will not be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this part of Kansas. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Zak's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used.

Zak will be arriving on transport in Denver on Tuesday 4/4/17. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and cuddly best friend, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com, fax to 303-443-7730 or mail a hard copy to Farfel's Farm 906 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302.
