**Dixie is currently being fostered in Houston, TX. Which means, unfortunately, meeting her in person prior to the adoption will not be possible. Her adoption donation is $500USD, which covers her flight and she is fully vetted. Because vet care and flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable.**

Our beautiful Dixie came off the streets of Houston with a little pack of babies in tow. She was such a great momma dog to her babies, but now it is time to find her a family where she can be the baby! Because many apartment/condo management companies have restrictions against her breed, it is
best to check about potential breed regulations prior to applying.

Dixie is a roughly 2-year old, 60 pound American Staffordshire. She is fully grown and will not get any bigger. Dixie is an active girl who will be best suited in a family that can commit to proper exercise and socialization.

Dixie currently lives with other dogs and loves having a playmate. She is a patient girl and would be great as a single dog or as an addition to a family with another active dog. She does not currently live with cats, but a cat test could be arranged for potential adopters who have kitties.

Dixie has a great disposition and would be a great addition to a family with children who know how to be kind and respectful of animals.

Dixie is house and kennel trained and has done a great job of learning how to walk on her leash. She spends adventuring with her foster dad and would make a great running/jogging/adventure buddy for the right family.

Dixie’s ideal family will understand that she will take time and patience as she acclimates into her new life. She may have accidents, chew on things she is not supposed to, and bark in her kennel. It can take dogs a few weeks to properly acclimate to their new lives, so she is seeking a family that can give her this time and work with her on becoming an even more awesome dog than she already is.

Dixie should be adopted by a family who plans to keep her indoors as part of a family - we do not adopt dogs into situations in which they will be left outside for extended periods of time unattended (for example, the entire work day).

Unfortunately, Dixie did not receive proper preventatives before coming into rescue and she is heartworm positive. She has been started on a slow kill medical protocol which involved a small dose of oral medication twice a month. The rescue will provide all of the medication she needs to clear the heartworms. She has no damage to her heart or lungs or overall health issues, this is just something that has to be slowly killed off.

Dixie is fully vetted (spayed, microchipped, vaccinated) and has no health or allergy issues that we are currently aware of (aside from the heartworm).

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application via our website which you can access via the following link:

About Reggie's Friends-Boston

About Our Rescue Group...

Reggie’s Friends was founded out of our love for helping dogs. Living in a city of 1.2 million homeless animals, there was rarely a day when we didn’t see a dog in need of help. Instead of just wanting to do something, we figured out how to do something! Reggie’s Friends is dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs in and around the greater Houston, TX area. We focus our attention on helping shelter dogs, street dogs, and dogs who have been abandoned in boarding facilities find loving, forever families.

Our Adoption Process...

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an application. This can be done via our website at the following link:

Our team will then review the application, contact references, perform a vet-check, and request photos of the common areas of the house and yard that serve in lieu of a home visit.

Following the completion of the application, we set up video chats either through Skype or Facetime between the foster and adoptive families.

Our adoption fee is $500USD, which includes the cost of transport and any relevant vet care appropriate to their age. Dogs flying into Canada are subject to an additional ~$125 in custom's fees. These fees are for customs and not related to the rescue or its expenses.

The application process generally takes between 5-7 days as all volunteers also have full time jobs and families.
