Hello everyone, my name is Sperry! That's like the shoe, except that sometimes my foster Momma also calls me Sperry Berry or Spare Bear or Spare Rib or Deck Shoe and, well, you get the picture. When I was really little, the nice rescue people saved me and my sister from the shelter. We had some itchy stuff on our skin and we were missing some fur, but now you'd never know it, because I am super handsome (I swear I'm not a stuck-up puppy.....my foster Momma told me to say that!). I'm part Shar-Pei, so my ears are little and my tongue has black spots, which makes me quite distinctive looking, if I do say so myself. I may also have some Cattle Dog in me, because sometimes I try to herd my foster Momma when she isn't moving fast enough for my taste. :) I am a very sweet, loving boy who will be very easy to train because I love treats and food, but most of all because I am very smart! I stick close to my human until I feel comfortable, and then I make myself right at home. I get along with all other dogs and even with those things that say "meow." I love playing and wrestling with my foster brother and sister! They keep telling me that I'll find a furever home soon, but I heard that humans don't look at black dogs that much. That can't be true, can it? Please give me a chance. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Sperry is a Shar-pei / Lab maybe Cattle Dog mix that we estimate to be born around November 29, 2016.

PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/k9_angels_rescue_application_to_adopt.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered.

OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. However, we only adopt young puppies locally, due to the 4 month timeframe it takes to get them fully vetted and altered.

SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one’s pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted.  If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready.

NOTE:  All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian.

About K-9 Angels Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, all-breed canine rescue organization established in February 2012. As of April 9, 2017, we've found homes for over 3,691 dogs!!

We are a rescue group for shelter dogs who run out of time. In other words, we are not a shelter, have no permanent facilities, and are not equipped to take in dogs from the public. We select dogs from the greater Houston "kill" animal control facilities who would not have made it out alive. (Don't worry! If you need help rehoming a dog, there are other non-profit groups who can assist you.)

No one involved in K-9 Angels receives ANY compensation. Our volunteers are compassionate animal welfare advocates who contribute their time, skills, and finances to shelter homeless dogs in Houston. To save the lives of the abandoned, abused, and stray dogs who end up in Houston's animal control facilities, K-9 Angels relies completely on adoption fees, donations, and our amazing volunteers.

K-9 Angels covers ALL costs for dogs currently in the program. During intake, every dog gets a microchip and is spayed or neutered (if old enough for the procedure). If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. We fund all medical care necessary, even if we have to raise extra Helping Paw funds for special cases! From the time they enter the program to the time they graduate, K-9 Angels dogs are kept up-to-date on all vaccines (DHLPPC, bordatella, rabies) as well as heartworm and flea prevention.

We commit to K-9 Angels dogs until they are adopted.
Our volunteer foster homes patiently provide safety, love, and integration into a household environment - a key to successful adoptions. The biographies, pictures, and even videos from foster homes are important "pup-licilty" for our dogs! We are always in need of additional foster homes.

Our goal is a "fur-ever" home! We take every precaution not to contribute to the dog overpopulation problem here in Houston. Applications are processed according to our adoption policies to insure the best situation for our dogs and the families who adopt them.

Our Adoption Process...

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from K-9 Angels Rescue! Please understand that not all families and dogs are compatible. Every effort is made to match a dog’s exhibited traits with characteristics you desire in a dog.
As such, adoptions are not done on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event we have multiple applications for the same dog and all applications are equal, we will most likely adopt the dog to the applicant having current or previous dog ownership.

AS A RESCUE, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY ANY APPLICATION.

To be considered as an adopter, you must be:
- At least 23 years of age and possess valid identification showing current residential address;
- Willing and able to invest the time and money required to provide proper care for a dog
(estimated minimum annual cost = $950 per dog);
- Prepared to pay a $200 Adoption Fee (this includes the dog’s spay/neuter, microchip,
boarding, vaccinations, heartworm and flea prevention, and any other medicines or medical
procedures needed);
- Willing to allow us to do a home visit prior to adoption; and
- Prepared to give us your veterinarian’s contact information if you currently own a dog
or have owned a dog in the past
