Long story ahead, but please read his whole bio before applying!!
Pierre is 1.5 years old and weighs 6 lbs. He has been with us since July 2016. When we met him, Pierre was living in a back yard with 30 other dogs and was 100% feral. Dogs have a socialization window as puppies. If they miss that opportunity to socialize with humans, they have a really hard time and may never learn to trust a human. Pierre missed that window by months. He is currently 75% feral and may never socialize beyond this level. We are looking for a super special adopter for Pierre who will understand who he is and is willing to give him a chance.
*Pierre's adopter is required to have a secure fenced yard. He loves being outside but is almost impossible to catch outdoors.
*Pierre's adopter must be in physical condition that allows them to chase him if need be.
*Pierre is 100% outdoor potty trained and wants to potty outside.
*Pierre does not walk on a leash. In familiar places we have had good progress with following while on leash. If he is in an unfamiliar place he will flop like a fish on his leash or freeze.
*Pierre loves dogs! He even has made dog friends that are outside of his foster pack. Pierre would do best in a home with other dogs. He even loves big dogs.
*Pierre does warm up to people but remains cautious of them. He has progressed to being excited to see familiar people, even licking their hands, but not comfortable enough to let them pick him up.
*Pierre doesn't like to be held. He will sleep on the foot of of his foster's bed but will never tolerate true cuddling.
*Even though he is afraid of people, Pierre's foster is able to go through day to day routines with Pierre without touching him. He does really well with routines and is more comfortable knowing what is expected of him.
*Pierre will bark at you but he has never once tried to bite.
*Pierre needs a home with no small children. He is very afraid of children.
*Pierre is smart. His lack of trust in humans doesn't mean he is dumb. He catches on quickly. He is always trying to figure out what you need for him to do. You must be flexible enough to create a routine that works both with him and yourself.
If you are the super dog parent we are looking for, please apply to adopt our Pierre! We are in no hurry to get him adopted. We will hold out for the perfect family. Any adoption will be done on a trial basis at first. We are sorry to sound so strict, but we cannot risk Pierre escaping and getting lost. We made a promise to him that he would be safe forever, and we will honor that promise. We are currently only accepting local adoption applications in San Antonio and the surrounding area.

Texas Chihuahua Rescue is based in San Antonio, Texas. All of our adoptable dogs are located in the San Antonio area. Transport arrangements will be made upon application approval and completion of the adoption agreement.
