Umbrella of Hope 'Be Our Pet'

7 yr old, 3.5 lb Chihuahua SPAYED FEMALE for ADOPTION

Meet Miss Acana Kibble!

Acana is with a rescue group in the SF Bay Area of CA and we welcome adopters from ANYWHERE who are willing to COME TO US to adopt. We care about our dogs too much to send them on unregulated transports.

She does qualify for our Seniors for Seniors adoption program where dogs aged 5+ are available to people aged 55+ for a $5 adoption fee. Regular adoption criteria apply.

Acana joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center via San Jose Animal Advocates and Tails of a Shelter Vet where we understand she was confiscated from the owner for neglect. She is named after her favorite dog food ACANA Pet Foods

Acana is a 7 yr old, 3.5 lb Chihuahua SPAYED FEMALE. She is also microchipped, vaccinated, free of parasites and had a dental procedure where most of her horrifically decayed and rotting teeth were extracted. She has also had senior labwork.

Due to her mouth being sore, she will be on wet food, antibiotics and pain meds for the next couple of weeks. After that, she should have no ongoing medical concerns. Instead of being turned off by her lack of teeth (we think she has four left), potential owners should breathe a sigh of relief that the potential for future dental issues has pretty much been negated.

Acana does have the typical 'chihuahua knees' which are slightly luxated patellas but since they do not seem to cause her any pain and are graded low (1/4 and 2/4) our veterinary team sees no reason to put her through surgery to fix them. If she is kept at a reasonable weight, they should not cause any issues. Allowing dogs to get fat is an awful way to cause them pain from the stress on their joints.

Acana gets along well with other dogs but seems to ignore them mostly. She likes all people, including the teacup variety but sue to her size we are going to say she would be looking to live with children who were more the 'tea party' than the 'superhero' type. She is smaller than most cats and ignores them,

Her hobbies include eating, sitting on laps, cuddling and snuggling under blankets. She is currently binge-watching Grey's Anatomy on Netflix and says she is more of a 'princess than a pioneer' so she is not really the kind of dog for hiking or trekking unless you are willing to wear her in a backpack.

She walks well on a leash and loves the car (seems to know that drive-throughs dispense food). As far as housebreaking, she will go outside if you take her but she will not ask to go outside. She will use potty pads. And, she does fine in a crate.

If you are interested in adopting Acana, please send a detailed email to beourpet@gmail.com

If you cannot adopt but would like to make a tax-deductible donations towards her medical care while with us ($800), please do so at www.paypal.me/UOH

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5

Umbrella of Hope is a non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals off death row from local shelters. We offer rebates of adoption fees after completion of obedience classes and CGC titles.

Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet. Some of our senior animals have sponsorships for their food/vet care/medicine for the rest of their life at our vet in Pittsburg, CA (94565)

Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.  Other retired public servants, please let us know what career you retired from and we can let you know if we offer any discounts for your adoption

We thank Maddie's Fund for their sponsorship, Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services, Lovely Grooming for our grooming needs, and Delta Dog Camp for training.
