Hi! My name is Lucas and I’m a little dog with a BIG personality. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but us Chihuahuas tend to be a little clannish sometimes, and usually are a one person dog…. well I’m what you call your “typical Chihuahua”, and darn proud of it!!! Yes, I like to express myself often and quite honestly if you approach me the wrong way I may not like you. That doesn’t mean that I can’t be someone’s best furry friend, as well as a true and loyal companion. I just want a calm home that will understand my typical Chihuahua temperament and will give me the chance to show you that I can love, give affection, cuddle on your lap and give you sweet little kisses, I just need that chance, and time, that’s all. At the shelter I really don’t get a chance to shine, it’s loud in there with all the other big dogs barking. I bark too but I feel the barking competition is fierce at the shelter, so everyone just passes by and ignores me. When a kind volunteer takes me out on walks, I strut my stuff with sass and pizazz, it’s my time to shine; after all, I’m a little dog with a lot of confidence. My ideal home would be perhaps with someone that is familiar and has experience with chis. Someone that will have the patience and give me the space and time to come around at my own pace. I need to be sure first, before I unleash my love and give you my heart. I know my human is out there, I’m counting on my lucky stars I get to meet him or her soon.
I’m 1.5 years old, neutered and up to date on vaccines. I’m ready to go to my furever home and make myself comfortable on my own bed, or your couch. I promise you that with me you’ll never have a dull day in your life.

About Bergen County Protect and Rescue

About Our Shelter...

Bergen County Protect & Rescue is a True No-Kill Animal Welfare Facility located in Cliffside Park. It was founded in 2012 by Eastern Bergen County's very own Animal Control Agency, Bergen County Humane Enforcement. The idea of creating a no-kill facility came to be when animal control officers were forced to take lost and abandoned animals to surrounding veterinarians and animals shelters with no knowledge of where their final destination would be. In most cases, the animals were treated and adopted out to loving homes while others were euthanized.

Inspired to help make a difference in the animal world today, BCP&R was created. Today, we are a 501c(3) non-profit, volunteer operated, no-kill animal shelter. We are grateful to all the rescue groups, veterinarians, shelters, volunteers and donors that helped make BCP&R what it has become today. Their guidance and support has empowered us greatly.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Animals are available for adoption 7 days (12:00pm - 5:00pm) a week from our facility. Late night Wednesdays - open till 7pm.
