What is your name?
Hi, my name is Phoenix!

How old are you?
I am about 3 years old.

What do you look like?
I am a small and compact little boy, it is hard to tell in my photos, but I am really a tiny little man, about 40 lbs. and short, my foster mom says I am built like a “staffie” I have a fawn coat with black masking and an adorable baby face. I don’t shed much at all either!

What do you like to eat?
My foster mom gives me awesome bowls of salmon kibble often topped with yummy, healthy things like coconut oil, raw local honey, vitamin C and Honest Kitchen! I like treats too, I am a little bit picky, but not too picky, I am still learning what treats are all about! I LOVE string cheese and I LOVE peanut butter. Peanut butter is best when its inside a Kong or hollow marrow bone! On special occasions my foster mom gives me a raw meaty frozen marrow bone, I am obsessed with those!

What kind of personality do you have?
I am a shy boy. It takes me a little bit of time to warm up to new people, so you will have to take my foster mom’s word for it that once I know you, I LOVE YOU, and I am extremely loving and cuddly once I am comfortable with the new person. Although I am shy, I am NEVER a threat, I ALWAYS choose flight There is not a mean bone in my body! If I get scared of something new I jump back a few feet away so that I can have a little bit of space while I get up the nerve to come sniff, approach and/or say hi again. I am very curious of new things; my foster mom says that is a good thing because it helps me work through my shyness. I have had great dog-dog interactions, I live with both a male and female dog in my foster family. We like to cuddle. I have never met a cat, but my mom thinks I might do best in a home without cats.

Describe your perfect day:
I really like my daily schedule, I am very schedule oriented. I wake up to eat breakfast with my foster family at 6am, then we go poop and potty. I stay in a kennel while my foster mom goes to work. I have a really nice neighbor named Robin that takes me out to potty around lunchtime and she usually stays and hangs out with me in the yard for a bit so that I can stretch my legs. She has been practicing basic obedience with me too! Then I go back into my crate until my foster mom gets home (usually around 5 or 6pm), then either she or our friend Maureen takes me for a big walk! I LOVE walking! I often walk alongside my housemate dogs. After our walk we eat dinner and lounge around in the house. On nice nights we like to play in the backyard together too! At bedtime I usually sleep in a kennel in my foster mom’s room. However, the other night my foster mom fell asleep watching TV with me on the bed and I was careful to stay very still and sleep all night so that I got to stay with her until the morning! She was very proud of me.

What is your favorite toy?
I love to chew on Benebones! I am still learning about toys; I am not quite sure how to play with them yet.

Do you know any tricks?
I can sit! Tricks are hard for me to learn; my foster mom says I am a work in progress!

What scares you?
New people, new places and new noises can easily scare me. However, my confidence is improving each day! For example, when I fist came to Even Chance I would puke the whole time I rode in the car. Now, after lots of practice with my foster mom I can ride in the car and settle down nicely!

Do you have any doggie best friends?
I have a foster brother and sister dog and we all get along great. I also have a few play groups that I get to hang with. Sometimes I get too excited and I need to be reminded not to play too rough, my foster brother and sister remind me a lot and I listen to them well. My foster mom always makes sure I have had a walk before we do rough-house play in the yard, that way my initial energy is out. I am still learning how to play with other dogs, so I do best with dogs that are very tolerable and/or offer me appropriate corrections when I forget how to be polite. I am VERY good at just “co-existing” with other dogs, I am a rock star at just relaxing and lounging around with my pack. I am not reactive at all when meeting new dogs, I do great at intros!

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be?
It is a toss-up between my foster momma’s bed and in the yard hanging out!

How is your health?
My health is great!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion?
I live with dogs, grownups, and a toddler! I am great with everyone, however that toddler can be pretty scary, I usually avoid her and lay on my bunk-bed when she is on the move, I haven’t quite figured her out yet, I am not sure I ever will, she can be so loud and sporadic! When she is still (which isn’t very often), I will gently approach her and sniff her and wag my tail.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone?
When I am the only one in the house, my foster parents put me in my crate. I feel safe in my crate and don’t mind lying in there until someone comes home to play with me! Since I have never lived in a house until now, I would probably get bored if I was left out loose and chew some things I am not supposed to chew. Those shoes are just too tempting!

Where do you sleep?
If I am lucky, I get to sleep in the big, comfy bed with my foster mom, but on most nights I sleep in my crate. I don’t mind sleeping in my crate in her room because it is filled with plenty of warm fleece blankets!

What do you love about your foster family?
I love that my foster family rescued me and is taking the time to work on my training since I will grow into a very big boy! I am so lucky and proud to be an EC dog!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents?
In 2016, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) rescued 66 dogs from a dog-fighting ring seizure that was busted by the FBI. Myself and Jade were two of those dogs. Unfortunately, even after our first couple of horrible years of living in the dog fighter’s yard, we had to remain in temporary boarding for eight months until we were released from the court system. Upon our release, we were legally allowed to be spayed and neutered and were then finally transferred to Even Chance. If you want to read more about where we came from, please visit:

Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for each of our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they acclimate into their foster home. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want our dogs to be matched up to the best living situation per their individual personality, needs and preferences. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home.

If I sound like the perfect pit bull for your and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application here and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.
