My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It got scarily close to Tanner's euthanasia time in a dismal Texas shelter. It was definitely through no fault of his own..it's all a matter of space. He came in at a very crowded time (but then again..all times are very crowded) and was therefore given a very short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our very compassionate Texas rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute fuzzy guy with a great temperament!), Tanner was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. His rescuer and shelter workers haven't stopped raving about this adorable and engaging guy ever since.

Tanner, at just about 5 years old and 20 lbs is the perfect age and size to take along just about anywhere. He's a young adult and therefore has the maturity to be past puppyish behaviors while having lots of healthy, active years ahead. At 20 lbs, Tanner is large enough to joyfully hike (or walk) the trails...and then small enough to be a snuggly lap (or couch) dog at day's end.

Farfel's Rescue envisions Tanner with a loving family with older, respectful and dog-crazy kids. Active retirees who enjoy spending their time with a comical and very sweet fuzzy guy would also be a great match for Tanner. He would be a very family-oriented pup if given the chance...adventures, vacations or just hanging out at home would speak to the nature of this guy. A fun time would be exploring dog-friendly spots or time spent socializing with gentle canines and their dog-loving families.

Tanner can be counted on to be a truly positive addition to any home. While initially shy after all the changes in his life... if given the time to process (treats and soft words are so helpful), Tanner will be a bonded and very loving family member.

Tanner is a low-maintenance guy whose joy at being part of a committed family would know no bounds. He would be a great candidate for positive reinforcement group obedience classes since his desire to please is so strong...and it would create that special bond that exists between a trained, respectful dog and his people. After passing his temperament tests and vetting with flying colors, Tanner is in a foster home in Texas being reminded of his basic house skills. His foster family has described him as a lovebug and a sweetpea...can we possibly say more? They did say that Tanner may need a bit of time after his long transport to Boulder, to be his loving self.

Tanner is in desperate need of a sudsy bath and a great brushing as can be seen in his photo. He suffers from dermatitis (like so many rescue dogs). This is a temporary itchy skin challenge caused by stress and dirty conditions. With great nutrition and a kind and loving home...Tanner will emerge with a beautiful and cottony-soft coat that speaks of his breed mix.

As a non-shedding breed mix, Tanner will also require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, super-soft and matt-free.

Tanner will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 3/7/17. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
