My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET CASEY the Dorkie - newest member of the ODR, Inc. Puppy Brigade!

CASEY is a 4 month old, miniature (about 5 lbs) long haired Dachshund/Yorkshire Terrier Mix puppy (although he looks suspiciously like an EWOK). His Mom was Yorkie; dad was cream mini longhaired doxie. CASEY was just saved and is now at ODR, Inc. looking for a loving forever family of his very own. CASEY is a typical puppy...cuteness beyond belief and LOVES to PLAY.

His puppy shots have been started as have his flea and parasite control treatments. However, because CASEY is so young, his new family will need to agree to have him neutered at 5.5 months old and to provide him with his puppy training so that CASEY can learn all he needs to achieve his full potential as a member of the family.

Because this little cutie is so small, we believe that CASEY will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. We may consider placing with a small, lady-like, spayed female doxie, but NO LARGE DOGS. This little fella is just the sweetest little Ewok (I mean doggie) ever. You'll want to get those applications in as soon as possible.

Like all Dachshunds, CASEY is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, CASEY needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give CASEY a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
