My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oliver is a 2-3 year old fawn colored Pit bull mix. He was rescued from a high kill animal shelter in Chicago. Oliver’s sweet, gentle temperament made him a volunteer favorite. He was emaciated when they brought him in and he was still severely underweight when I started fostering him, but with time and good food we've been able to remedy that, so now he's a healthy 65 lbs.
Oliver is friendly with the male and female dogs in my home and gets along with the cats. However, he does not meet dogs outside the immediate “pack” very friendly. When I temporarily took in a new dog, it took him about a day to accept her, so it’s best that he starts off as an only dog to avoid conflict. With the proper introduction, he can obviously co-exist with other dogs in the household. He absolutely loves people- friends and strangers alike. He's definitely a "people dog." He'd rather be cuddled up with a person than hang out with other dogs.
Oliver is calm inside the house, rarely barks and is very affectionate. He's good about not jumping on people too. Even though he'd been previously starved he takes treats gently and has not displayed any food aggression towards people or other dogs. He is still in the chewing phase of his adolescence, so hide the slippers! Oliver is on his way to becoming completely housebroken. He doesn't know his own strength and is also clumsy, so for that reason, should not be in a home with small children. He follows me around the house and is a tripping hazard in the kitchen. He doesn't really know any commands, but we've been working on "sit."
Oliver is a big, friendly dog with a few insecurities. He sometimes flinches away if you make quick hand movements towards him and unfamiliar sounds can startle him. He can also be hesitant when walking through doors, but he’s become a lot more comfortable with that. After multiple car rides and a little guidance from his doggie bro, Junior, he now jumps in the car by himself. He prefers looking out the front windshield to sticking his head out the window. He likes walks, but is a strong puller and will need some training.
Oliver would do best with a dog savvy owner, as you may discover other things that frighten him, so I want to make sure whomever adopts him is dedicated and patient enough to work through that with him. Oliver is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. He’d make a lovely addition to the right household. Please contact Teresa @ 630-815-1440 for more information. His adoption fee is $200.
