Saint Nick's Story...
I mean, come on. Just look at that face. What a hunky meatball of a dog! This is Saint Nick, and he has wiggled his big body straight into our hearts. Saint Nick arrived at a shelter in Utah as a stray back in November. He had no luck getting adopted there, and after several requests for rescue help, we agreed to take him in. The previous shelter reports that Saint Nick was very reactive to other dogs and to cats, so he may do better as the only man in your life. But that's OK -- he has personality for days. You really don't need anyone else. Saint Nick is very strong and needs some gentle direction when it comes to walks. He'd much rather go his own direction, but this guy wants to be by your side (or, better yet, in your lap!) and doesn't mind settling into the groove after a few minutes. Because he is so big and so powerful, we recommend a dog-savvy, experienced handler. Also, Saint Nick comes with a bit of a rap sheet, and it's important that whomever adopts him is fully aware of his behaviors. Here's what we were told: "St. Nick bit a male walker's arm when he was trying to get him out of his kennel to take him for a walk back in December. I am not too confident that the walker was savvy with his breed and may have frustrated him when he was trying to get his choke chain on. The excitement combined with a ton of testosterone running through his system I think made him lash out. The shelter decided to neuter him to see if it would help, and it really did! He has made such a remarkable turnaround since then! He hasn't shown any aggression, and calmed way down whenever anyone approaches his kennel. All he wants now is for someone to take him for a walk. He gets really excited to see people and walks very well on the leash after being out for a few minutes. He's a strong boy, so it's usually a man that walks him every day because our gal walker is probably 100 pounds soaking wet ." We have seen absolutely zero signs of aggression with this guy. We have been able to leash him and walk him, and we feel that he is people-friendly. He is fine with full body touching; in fact, he leans right up against you and begs for more back scratches. With the right family, we believe Saint Nick will have a happy, positive future.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Saint Nick, a Meridian Mixed Breed (Large) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Mixed Breed (Large) for sale in Meridian, or seeking a Mixed Breed (Large) dog from a breeder in Meridian.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Meridian already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Meridian breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Mixed Breed (Large) breeders who help with Mixed Breed (Large) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Meridian paves the way for another one to be saved.
