My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet Emma Grace. Bless her heart. This little love is 18-24 months old, a pure bred Shih Tzu, and before being pulled from a hoarding breeder, Emma Grace never knew the touch, love, or care of a human hand. Fright paralyzed Emma Grace even after a young lady committed to her adoption, and when cornered, she used the only defense she knew-she bit. Ruh Row. Emma Grace was returned to the original organization that committed to her well being, and we were contacted, having worked with other hoarded dogs from the same breeder successfully. Fast forward two months, and Emma Grace is beginning to blossom the very best that she can. She has settled nicely into her foster home, and is being introduced to new experiences often. In a house full of kids, other dogs, and even cats, she has begun to understand that most people mean her no harm-even if they're loud and rambunctious. Emma Grace has bonded deeply with her foster mom, and is beginning to open up to her foster dad. She allows the kids to pet and snuggle in the presence of foster mom, but still shies away otherwise. She has found her safe space to which she retreats when the world is a little too much, but she is willing to observe, and even join in new adventures. Emma Grace has found solace and immense joy in playing with other dogs. She has been a welcome addition to the foster home's pack, and continues to learn just how to be a dog! She loves the company of other dogs, doesn't mind cats at all (she's smaller than most anyway!), and will be most comfortable in a home with older, dog saavy children, or no children. Emma Grace definitely bonds to female caretakers, and a primarily female home with other kind-hearted small dogs would be amazing. Once bonded, her new mom will never know life without lots of kisses! Emma Grace is fully vaccinated, up to date on heartworm and flea preventatives, spayed, and microchipped. Emma Grace is also house trained with regular opportunity, crate trained, and leash trained.
