My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little cutie is Goldie. She is an 11 year old Lhasa Apso and weighs 13 pounds. Goldie is a sweet girl who is good with other dogs and cats. She loves attention and likes to sit on a lap and be cuddled.

Prior to coming into rescue Goldie had a horrible life. Her family divorced and she went with her dad. Her dad got tired of her and dropped her at her mom’s. Her mom was a monster and locked her in a garage for a month and didn’t feed her or care for her at all. When Goldie was surrendered to us she had scarcoptic mange, both eyes were bleeding, horrible teeth, her remaining fur was matted, and she weighed just 9 pounds. All her bones were sticking out and she looked like a skeleton. She was cold and too weak to even stand up.

Goldie is a special little girl with a very strong will to survive. When there is so much wrong you start with the most immediate need and work thru the issues one by one. Goldie ate and drank small amounts every couple hours for the first couple days and was then able to stand. The next concern was the scarcoptic mange, Goldie was using all the energy she had to itch. That was treated with Revolution to kill the scabies mites causing it and medicated baths to soothe her irritated skin. Her matts were shaved off her. Next up were her eyes, both were bleeding and had some damage. Her left cornea had so much damage that a hole eroded all the way through it causing her eye to leak fluid. As soon as Goldie was strong enough to be put under she had a scleral graft to repair the hole and got antibiotic ointment to clear the infections. Next was Goldie’s dental and spay. Her teeth are now clean. Through all of her medical treatment Goldie remained happy and was never snarky. She knew we were helping her.

Goldie is ready to find a great forever home. Goldie sees out of her left eye but does not have great vision in her right eye. This doesn’t stop Goldie from playing and exploring at all. Because her eyes don’t produce enough tears she does get inexpensive eye drops twice a day to keep her eyes moist. She likes her eye drops and will sit patiently to have them put in. Goldie would like a home where she isn’t left alone for an 8 hour workday. Someone who works part time or is retired would be perfect for her.

Goldie is housetrained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and microchipped.
