My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*Available for Adoption in the Charlotte, NC region only due to special requirements Dog Name: Trooper Suspected Breed(s): Retriever mix Gender: Male Age: 2 years old Weight: 60 lbs Personality: Adventurous, playful, trainable, gentle, friendly, quiet, shy, loyal, energetic, snuggler, affectionate. Observations with Dogs: Trooper is good with other dogs who aren’t too dominant and no small dogs. He has done very well with a calm senior female dog. Observations with Cats: Cats are NOT recommended Observations with Kids: Trooper would do best in a home without kids as their unpredictability could make him nervous. House Training Progress: No accidents. He will whine to let you know he needs to go out. Crate Training Progress: Quiets quickly in his crate. Location: NC area foster Rescued From: Cleveland Co, NC Additional Information: Trooper had a tough start in life. We discovered he was feral after he was rescued from the shelter. He was feral until February 2017. Thanks to some wonderful volunteers local to the Cleveland Co shelter who would not give up on Trooper, he has now made huge strides in his behavior and is now comfortable and trusting of humans. Once Trooper made it past this huge hurdle, he was found to be a sweet boy who loves to be with his person and is a bit of a Velcro dog. He now enjoys all the attention and affection he receives and loves to give kisses. Trooper loves his daily walking adventures and finding new things to explore. He still pulls a little on the leash in the beginning because he is so excited to experience new smells. Lots of daily walks help him feel balanced. Trooper has come a long way in a short amount of time. He is eager to learn and eager to please. He is still cautious, but with reassurance from his person he learns to trust meeting new people. Because he was not socialized well with people or animals in his early days, we believe he is best suited for a home without children or the possibility of children in the future and one without cats or small dogs. Trooper is still somewhat fearful of new situations and will need someone who is patient and who will guide him with continued training as well as continue to expose him new experiences and socialization. He loves being outside and exploring and would make a great hiking buddy. Trooper will need someone who understands the nature of fearful dogs and help him to continue to develop his coping abilities. *Trooper is sponsored by Rad Habayeb. Thank you, Rad! If you are interested in meeting a dog, we require an adoption application. Visit www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adopt.html to apply. ***Because of Trooper's special requirements, he is only available for adoption in the Charlotte, NC area.
