My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke is a 5-year-old neutered male black lab. Duke weighs 52 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

May 17, 2017: Duke is an incredible affectionate dog who enjoys hanging out with his people, snuggling, and playing with squeaky toys. He has great house manners and is a mild mannered guy in the house. He is learning leash manners but still has some pull to him. He enjoys snuggling in bed and on the sofa!

April 23, 2017: Duke is a sweet snugglebug who could use some more groceries on his frame. He is crate trained, but behaves very nicely in the house and sleeps soundly all night through. He is housebroken and leash trained, but he is a little cautious on walks in new places, so his new owner will need to be patient and reassuring. Duke is a great car passenger too. Duke does retrieve and enjoys his toys. Duke does have a strong prey drive, so no cats or toy/miniature dogs in the home, please. He did get along great with his Jack Russell terrier sibling so that must be the size that he recognizes as dog, not critter.

Apr 8, 2017: Duke is a sweet and charming guy. In the house, he is low key and well mannered. He is very snuggly, too. He loves to rest his chin on your leg so you can pet him. If you stop too soon, he will nudge you with his nose to get you started again. Duke enjoys playing with toys. He chews on his antlers and relocates the stuffed animals according to a master plan that mere humans may not understand. When left loose in the house the other evening, he moved a pile of toys to the front hall to surprise his human. When his human doesn’t play with him, he will throw the tennis ball himself and then chase it. Duke loves to go for long walks. He pulls some but a snug EZ Walk harness works well. He wags for people he sees, ignores most other dogs, occasionally getting a bit excited, and is definitely interested in bunnies.

Update: May 1, 2017: Hi! I’m Duke. I love people. I will sit on your lap and follow you around. I love playing with toys and will take all of them out and put them in their proper place, even if you think they belong elsewhere. I love long walks and get very excited when its time to go outside. I pull a little, but lets be honest, humans walk too slow. I can get distracted very easily outside, with birds, squirrels and other dogs. I have good manners in the house, as long as you don’t tempt me. I love food and will do tricks for you. I have gained some weight and don’t look so skinny now.

Apr 4, 2017: What the dogwalker had to say about Duke, "What a love he is. Oh my gosh. He is going to make somebody a great friend!"

Duke is a very sweet dog. He has good house manners and he is very calm in the house. He likes to play fetch for a bit or chew on a nyla bone. He know some commands and is eager to please. He loves to snuggle up to his humans and if you like a furry bed mate he is your man! He pulls on leash and benefits from a harness. Duke generally ignores other dogs he sees but he will get excited when he sees small dogs. No cats, bunnies, or little dogs, please.
