My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dumbledore is a 16-month-old male Dane who came to rescue with a serious leg infection He was neutered and swelling started next day he was not treated, and 3-4 days later it ruptured and that is when the MRSA infection started. As a result, he is now missing the skin on that leg right down to the paw.
Dumbledore is facing a 2-3 month recovery that includes strong antibiotics and bandage changes every 2-3 days and possibly a skin graft.
Dumbledore will be on a Medical Hold until his leg has healed. He came to rescue in October (5).

Update October 22, 2016
Dumbledore is the sweetest baby we have met in a long time. He wants nothing more than cuddles and human contact. Dumbledore has a long road ahead of him. He is currently receiving honey wraps 2 times a week and will be scheduled for a skin graft to replace the missing skin on his thigh. He is expected to be in the splint for at least 3 more months. He needs to gain weight but the pain meds he is on is preventing that from happening easily. He is nauseous most of the time and needs to have 5 small meals a day in an attempt to have him hold it down. He rides fabulously in a car. Of course he does, he is in one several times a week to the vet and back. So far he has been excellent with dogs but he hasn’t had any play time with them. He has to sniff them through a gate but tails are wagging the entire time. He is on limited activity until he feels better. At the vet, he has encountered cats and a treasure trove of dogs. He has had no reaction to the cats but the small dogs (about 30lbs and below) he barks and lunges. Large dogs (lab and over) of both genders seem fine. So far he is gentle with kids but he is also not able to move quickly due to his splint. We anticipate he will be fine but will know more soon. We are not actively recruiting for Dumbledore until he progresses further along in his treatment.

Dumbledore is fast becoming the vet favorite. Not hard when he is there 3 times a week and he is the sweetest and biggest dog there  Dumbledore is receiving laser therapy and leg wraps 3 times a week and has had him initial referral for a skin graph. The specialist does not think we are ready for that so he will continue the current treatment plan for at least a month and be reevaluated by the veterinary surgeon. He is on STRONG antibiotics for the leg infection and you know what happens when you are on a ton of meds…no hunger and / or a belly ache. He has been throwing up when he eats and has lost 4 pounds. NOT good when he had no fat to lose in the first place but he is being monitored and his foster and vet are working on a holistic plan to address his leg infection AND his belly. We are anticipating him being rescreened for the infection 2 weeks after his meds are completed and hoping the vet has positive details to give us. Amazingly he is happy and smiley through this all and wants nothing more that to feel better and play with some furfriends. He is on an exercise restriction and due to the unknown infection, cannot be around other animals. We hope that will change soon and he can truly be the happy and sweet Dane that he is.

Dumbledore is coming along very nicely. His leg is healing and is looking better and better. He is receiving weekly laser therapy treatments and is responding very well. Although is belly is settling, it is not clear why he is having issues holding food down. His foster mom has found the key and Dumbledore now weighs 109lbs. WOOT WOOT!! His is given 3 cups of soaked kibble 2 times a day. He is fed very small portions at a time. 1/4 cup at most and fed elevated (almost head height). He is returning to the vets to get an official diagnosis for his stomach and we will update this posting as soon as we know.

On to his blossoming behavior. For the first time in forever Dumbledore can be a puppy. He is jogging around the yard (not allowed to fully run yet) and playing tug of war with his foster family and furbrother. He is happy and amazingly sweet. With his increased energy and him feeling better we are seeing his true personality and we couldn't be happier. He is 100% crate and house trained and sleeps through the night with no issues. As with all puppies, he is not trustworthy if left unattended and uncrated. He is curious about everything and that is to be expected. He is not destructive when you are with him but left alone...and with a shoe...he will destroy it :)

Dumbledore is showing a little leash aggression towards smaller dogs or both genders. At the vet he encounters tons of animals and he is fine with dogs of both genders over 50lbs. He does not seem to care for the small, yippy dogs. Dumbeldore has had no reaction to the clinic cat.

He is excellent with children. He will be adopted with a training addendum once he is released from medical hold

Dumbledore’s leg is HEALED!! YAY! Some scarring but the look will get better and better over time. We are concentrating on his belly matters now and we have good news for that too. Dumbeldore had a Barium Study done and it is NOT Mega Esophagus. Looks more like a yucky bug that the meds he is on will knock out soon. He is holding his weight at 118 and looks FANTASTIC. We are hoping he will be cleared for adoption within the upcoming weeks and we can start actively recruiting for a home for him.
Dumbledore is a puppy and does puppy stuff. He has learned the “rules of the road” here…no counter surfing etc but left unattended he WILL take your lunch (lol). He is a huge leaner and loves to be near his humans. He is walking well on a gentle leader and needs to be watched for small dogs along the way as he is NOT a fan of the little guys and gals. He needs to go to a home with a large dog that can handle puppy play. He is not aggressive at all but does have a lot of energy to be released. He will adopted, due to his age, with a training addendum.

Guess who is CLEARED FOR ADOPTION….That’s right. Our Sweetie Dumbledore. He still has a reflux issue when he eats too fast but since Mega Esophagus is ruled out he just needs to learn to eat slower. Feeding him small portions at a time is the trick and he is thriving!!! He is a playful puppy now that he is feeling better and can be adopted. We can FINALLY actively recruit for him. He will not be adopted to a home with small dogs as he doesn’t have the patience for them. His energy level will be too high for a home with seniors. Keep in mind he is a puppy. We are so proud of him!!!!!

Jordan (formerly known as Dumbledore) is back. Due to no fault of his own, he was having problems holding down food. He is back with his foster mom and doing very well. We learned the hard way that his belly is VERY sensitive. He has eaten every flavor taste of the wild and does well with them all. Any changes to his diet needs to be done as a long term project. He is also a FAST eater He is fed in a slow feeder bowl but he will still gulp. He will remain in foster care until he can eat his food in one setting with no moistening and maintain that for 2 weeks. We are not actively recruiting for Jordan but once we are he will be an amazing addition to your home 
