My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Brandie von Brakel is a beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd mix – a special girl who needs a special owner. She's a sleek lady with a striking face and sparkling eyes. Her leash manners are good and, when needed, she listens attentively to corrections. House-trained and intelligent, Brandie already knows her basic commands and is eager to please. This sweet and playful girl needs a confident, kind and no-nonsense owner who will set boundaries and who will not provide an overdose of physical affection, which causes Brandie to become overly protective of her owner. Westside’s professional trainer will help to transition Brandie into your home.

Brandie von Brakel is in a foster home, offsite, and is not on location at the rescue.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
