My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mixes are great. Mixes add variety, interest and intrigue to our homogenous and orderly world. Think about it—you’ve got your mixed berries, mixed drinks, mixed nuts, mixed martial arts and, if you’re lucky, you can add this adorable mixed beagle to that list. Copper is a 29 pound, 16-inch-tall beagle mix who is sure to stir your heart.

At 4 years old, Copper has hit his stride. He’s young enough to enjoy a long walk or a good romp and old enough to know better than to chew your shoes or your furniture. He’s great on the leash and very responsive to your cues and your body language. He’s taught the other beagles in his foster home a thing or two about proper leash etiquette. In addition to being polite, Copper is also very smart. He learned to use the doggie door in minutes and hasn’t had once accident in the house. No need to crate this sweet boy while you’re gone. A squeaky toy and a nice dog bed, chair or couch (or preferably all three) are all he needs to amuse himself while you’re away.

Copper lives with two other beagles in his foster home. They treat each other like roommates, occasionally keeping each other company and sniffing around together but mostly doing their own thing. Copper has been known to give a little yip if he’s relaxing and feels another beagle is coming too close. He’d function well as an only dog or with other dogs so long as he has a spot he can retreat to that is his own.

Copper is doing well now, but things haven’t always been rosy for this black and tan beagle mix boy. He was found dumped at the side of a road with his buddy Todd with a bag of food and his dishes. He continues to duck his head in anticipation of a strike when a loving hand moves to pet him. He is growing less shy by the day and has begun approaching his foster mom and visitors for affection. Copper’s eyes express his sensitivity, his intuitiveness and his hope for a happy life in his forever home. If you’re ready to mix it up and offer Copper the loving home he deserves, fill out our adoption application below.
