My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is what Flower's foster mom has to say about her:

Blind Dog Rescue Alliance will transport within reasonable distance. Sweet little Flower is being fostered in Virginia.

This is what Flower's foster mom has to say about her:

Flower was a stray in the Richmond, Virginia area, and ended up in the shelter. While in the shelter, she had to be shaved down, including around her eyes, because of fleas and terrible matting. However, she didn’t seem to mind - the shelter named her “Sweetie Pie” because she is such a sweet girl! The shelter said she is a poodle mix, but one look at her and you will see she is not a purebred poodle. She is mixed with something (or several somethings!). She has a cute tail that curls at the end, and it wags almost all the time.

The shelter was running out of room so Sweetie Pie was running out of time. She was scheduled for euthanasia when the Blind Dog Rescue stepped in and saved her life. She came to her Virginia BDRA foster home in early March, was renamed Flower in honor of the spring season, and has been settling in very well.

Flower has had a number of medical issues addressed since arriving. She has been treated for bilateral ear infections, and now her ears are clear. She had a dental, and her teeth were cleaned and quite a few were extracted. She is starting to enjoy the nightly tooth brushing routine at her foster home! Her heart and lungs are good. She is a perfect weight (14 pounds) for her frame. She is on medications for her dry eye, uveitis, and glaucoma. The vet continues to work on the best combination of medications for her, and it is quite likely she will need to be on eye medication daily for the rest of her life. She is great about taking her eye drops! She has recently been spayed, and also has had some very small mammary tumors, which is common in female dogs who were not spayed at a young age and so then had puppies. The largest ones (but all were quite small) have been removed, and one was confirmed to be a very slow-growing cancer (mammary adenocarcinoma). Based on testing done, the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes or her lungs, which is excellent news, and she is feeling quite well. No treatment is needed at this time.

She is a terrific foster dog! She is a good eater, and sleeps through the night. She is learning about walking on a leash; she really enjoys being outside. She gets along with the dogs and the cat at her foster home, and is very, very friendly with adults. She loves to be held and cuddled, but also is very content hanging out on her dog bed. She has not yet had a chance to be with small children and it is expected she would be friendly, but any young child with any dog (including Flower) needs continual adult supervision.

Flower has very limited hearing and impaired vision, but she gets around the house well, and can go up and down a few steps from the deck to the yard and back again. She is housetrained and crate trained. There are so many good things to say about Flower!

And the best thing to say is Flower is ready for a forever home! But only put in an adoption application if you want a sweet dog with a lot of love to give.

And, while Flower is waiting for the just-right person to adopt her, she is writing a blog about her adventures at her foster home. Please check it out! Here is the link:http://bdraflower.blogspot.com/
