The name Handsome certainly fits this  3-year-old boy. He is really gorgeous in person. The way he holdshimself & his whole body structure is  something to behold. He's a powerful dog, a pit bull mix. When the photos were taken, he weighed 48 lb. but we have tried to fatten him up a little, so he's probably 50+ by now.

We pulled Handsome out of a shelter because he was to be killed that night. He's in a boarding facility in SC since we did not have a foster home that could take him.

Handsome has the best personality, so sweet & affectionate. He has been with an older child (9) and did awesome.  At the vet, anything they did to him was absolutely fine. Sweet, sweet boy. We have been trying to judge whether he is good with other dogs, but that's hard to do in a  boarding or even veterinarian office environment. So, it would be best if he's the only pet.

Handsome is heart worm positive and is on 'slow-kill' treatment that just requires giving him 1 Heartworm pill (ordinary Heartgard) a month which is supplied by the rescue. In our experience, dogs on slow-kill, will become heart worm negative in 12-15 months. He also had a mast cell tumor (cancerous) on his side, but it was removed with good, clear margins and was low-grade on the pathology report which is great news. All medical records will come with him, of course. He has been neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated.

For more information on Handsome Hofstetter, please call his buddy, Kelli, at 803-646-2593.

His adoption fee is $225.00

Transportation north is available too at a very reasonable rate.

Please use the foster momma or dad's contact information above for questions.

The process always begins with an application which can be found at The Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee website

Note that in most cases, we do not adopt to families with small children, e.g., 'under 6,' as a precaution to the child's safety and the dog's safety. In some cases with larger Boston mixes or other dogs, we do make exceptions. Please ask the foster momma.

We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog.  The East Coast division (NC/SC/VA/MD/DC) does have special transport capabilties for their kids.   Ask them.

Also, submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you.

About Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee

About Our Rescue Group...

All breeds have their own particular needs and rescued pets often have special requirements as well, very often in want of medical care, often lacking nourishment and kindness, and often expensive to rehabilitate.

Because we have had Boston Terriers of our own for many years, we are familiar with their habits, peculiarities and their special needs.

We operate across the southeast under the auspices of the Boston Terrier Rescue Network. We share information and resources in all of the USA with affiliated Boston Rescues.

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption fees generally range from $400 for pups and up, to usually four years, $275 for adults, usually $200 when we have a mixed breed Boston.

The fee is generally based on the dog's age and provides for neutering or spaying when required, all required shots, heartworm testing (we endorse "slow kill", a monthly prevention program for heartworms, treatment for other parasites, any other vet visits or urgent medical attention required, and supplies to foster homes. It is our expectation & requirement that these same preventative routine medications be continued as well as any required vet visits after the pet is adopted.

If for some reason a match isn't made the first time around and you are approved, we will keep your application on file for the next opportunity to arise. Our primary goal is to place a dog in the most suitable environment, based on the animal's individual needs and its temperament. The commitment is lifelong and the Boston's interests are always foremost.
