My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET CARROTS

CARROTS is an adorable yet very underweight 9lb, red longhaired 18 month old Dachshund.

This cute doxie unfortunately came to us from a hoarding situation in California but is ready to find his happy forever after with his new, loving, forever family. Since he was severely neglected, he will need lots of love and affection, including delicious food and treats to get him back up to a healthy weight. He is headed to the vet this week for his neuter, shots, and dental exam, and then it’s off to the groomer to really make his coat shine.

CARROTS is crate and leash trained, travels well, and doesn’t excessively bark. He will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (retired/work from home) and only older children (over the age of 12). Because all doxies are great hunters, it is important that his new home not have cats or small pets, but CARROTS could do well with a spayed, female doxie as a companion.

Are you ready to show this wonderful boy what a life full of love is like? Perhaps your family or someone you know has room in their heart and home for this very special doxie who will make a fantastic companion for the right family.

Like all Dachshunds, CARROTS is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, CARROTS needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 12 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give CARROTS a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
