Facts about Big Boy

  • Breed: Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise Mix
  • Color: White - With Black
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
Big Boy is a mix breed, possibly Bichon Frise with perhaps a dash of Shih Tzu thrown in .... who knows? He weighs 12 pounds and has a soft non-shedding white and black coat that will need regular grooming. Big Boy was found living with his brother, Little Boy, and sister, Ania, in the most appalling inhumane conditions imaginable. Based on what we have learned from animal control, he was probably born in late 2015. Big Boy is the most incredibly loving dog: snuggly, affectionate, friendly and doing very well with housetraining but will need time to adjust to your household and schedule. He is playful, has discovered toys and enjoys exploring his delightful new world. As a very young pup, Big Boy’s back feet were cut off but that doesn’t stop him or even slow him down. Perhaps he will need boots to protect his stumps when the weather gets cold and snowy but otherwise there is no reason why Big Boy cannot enjoy a normal life climbing stairs, chasing squirrels, jumping off furniture, splashing through puddles, digging holes and wrestling with other small dogs. Big Boy belongs in a loving home with a family that will see the trust in his adoring eyes and appreciate the good-natured companionship Big Boy has to offer. A guardian who will return that trust with love and care and give this special little dog the home he should have had from the start. Would you like to provide the happily ever after to Big Boy's story? Big Boy is neutered, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and he has had a complete physical and dental. His adoption fee is $300.

About Shih Tzu Rescue, Adoption & Education Safehouse (S.T.R.A.E.S.)

About Our Shelter...

Shih Tzu Rescue, Adoption and Education Safehouse (S.T.R.A.E.S.) is an all volunteer, not for profit, no-kill, licensed shelter, established in 1999 to provide sanctuary, loving care and an adoption program for abandoned and relinquished Shih Tzu. Our mission also includes two special programs. (1) Adoptable dogs with injuries and medical ailments that are costly to treat and who would otherwise be scheduled to die are given the extra-ordinary medical care and lengthy rehabilitation they need to live happy complete lives. (2) Neglected and abused dogs with behavior issues ranging from aggression to fear that have the potential to become loving family members are enrolled in a remedial program with a professional trainer/behaviorist so they too can be successfully placed in “forever homes.” All dogs are kept in a home-like environment with access to over two fenced-in acres where they can run free. Our Shih Tzu are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, current on annual inoculations and heartworm preventative and have an AVID microchip implant. Complete veterinarian wellness checks are done on all incoming pets and any necessary special tests, medical and/or surgical procedures are provided. Regularly scheduled grooming, parasite checks and treatment are also included as a part of our routine care. All dogs are temperament and personality tested so adopters can be matched with a dog that will best suit their expectations and lifestyle.
Our rescue group is very knowledgeable about the breed characteristics and specific care requirements of the Shih Tzu. Post adoption assistance is provided to help the adopted pet and caregiver through the transition period. We provide breed specific and general educational materials as well as consultation and training services for current and potential pet guardians. We will work with Shih Tzu owners considering giving up their pets, offering alternatives, education and assistance in an effort to help keep the Shih Tzu in it’s current home.

Come Meet Our Pets...

In 2017, we are scheduled to show our available dogs at the PETsMART store in Crestwood, IL (4975 Cal Sag Rd.) on the first and second Saturdays of every month between 10:30am & 2pm. Schedule changes will be posted on our Facebook and our Petfinder home page.

Our Adoption Process...
