My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lil Bit – UMDR ID#017-0402
Fostered by Laura P.

Lil Bit is a baby still at just 5 months old and needs a family that is willing to raise him up to be a confident and capable companion. He is a little dog at just 12 lbs and will likely be under 30 lbs as an adult. He would be an ideal candidate for obedience classes and would enjoy being part of a family that included him in activities that offered him the chance to run and play and just enjoy life in the moment. Lil Bit has been neutered and is up to date with all other vetting.

Here is what Lil Bit’s foster family had to say:

Lil Bit, who we call Billy, is a wonderful puppy full of energy and happiness. He is a little dog with the personality of a giant. He is a sweet, and very loving boy. Although he will be a bit shy at first, he warms up very quickly and has been friendly to everyone he has met. He is extremely healthy from what I have seen. There are no signs of any issues at all. Although loud noises might startle him at first, he appears to have no fear of anything. He has been walked past cars, motorcycles, people, trucks, etc. and has been in several rain storms since he has been with me.

He has also been friendly to any other dogs he has met and has enjoyed playing with our dog in the home. We have not had him around cats but we are pretty sure he would want to chase them. He loves to chase…other dogs, people, birds, anything that is moving quickly. I have been able to take him to a very large fenced in area where he can run and chase things and he loves it. He loves his person and always wants to be with them. He sleeps cuddled up next to me on the bed at night and is very good. He never tries to leave the bed or disturb me.

In the home he is mostly quiet except for when he hears people outside, at which point he may do a little barking. Not excessive though. After we come back from a nice walk he is content to have a nap or play with his toys. He loves playing with his toys and especially likes anything that has a scrunchy sound like a water bottle. He needs a lot of different things to play with and especially chew toys at this stage otherwise he will find things to chew on that he shouldn’t. He is a baby and should not be left unattended at any point lest he get into something that could be harmful to him.

He does have puppy energy and needs a family who would be willing to take him out several times a day. He does not need long walks, just multiple shorter walks and one session where he can have about 20 minutes loose to run around. He would definitely benefit from attending puppy obedience classes. As a puppy he would need someone that is home more often than not to ensure he continues with training and socialization to become a confident and well behaved dog. The good thing is that because of his size, it is quite easy to take him along with you to most places.

Currently we are working on house training and basic commands. He will sit if told as long as he isn’t in super hyper mode. He comes when called but otherwise knows no commands. He can’t counter surf, but he definitely tries to get up on your lap whenever you are eating and would steal food if he could get to it. He is being crate trained but is only in the crate for about an hour and a half when we go out to run errands. He doesn’t like going in the crate but again because of his size he is easy to pick up and put in the crate. He is far to young to be left on his own in the home unsupervised and his new family would need to continue with his crate training or to have a confined puppy proof area to keep him in when they are out of the home. He is very easy to walk on a leash. As he loves being with you, he never tries to escape or bolt out the door. He is good in the car. I usually put him in the front, passenger seat and make sure his leash is secured so he can’t make his way to my lap. He usually settles right down and either lays down or sits looking out the window.

I think Lil Bit needs a home where someone is home most of the day. He would do well with other dogs or as the only dog. He does not need lots of space inside as long as he has an opportunity several times a day to be outside and there is some large, fenced area they can take him to every day to have some free running time. I don’t think the family should have small children as Billy is a lightweight, little dog who could easily be hurt if mishandled accidentally. He would be great with a single person who would love to have him as their constant companion or in a family situation where there are children old enough to enjoy his energy and puppy antics.

If you have the time and would like to make this sweet boy a part of your family, please go to Ugly Mutts main website at uglymuttsdogrescue.com and submit an application for consideration.
