My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.

We at PDR firmly believe in the importance of obedience training, regardless of breed or size of dog, and have a clause in our adoption contract requiring adopters to attend and complete a basic obedience course at a facility of their choosing. Only in certain circumstances will we waive this clause, so please be prepared to attend dog school should you wish to apply for a dog through our program.

For more information and adoption applications please consult our website at www.pounddog.ca.

Let me introduce you to Sansa. She is a 5 month old boxer lab cross. Sansa is a nice sized dog
for any living situation. Sansa weighs in at just over 40 pounds and while she is probably the
size she will always be, she does have a bit more weight to put on as she grows up and fills out.
She has a beautiful black brown coat that shines in the sun with a beautiful white mark that
extends from her neck down to her chest. She has the sweetest looking face that just makes
you want to give her a big hug! She is a beautiful dog with an even more wonderful
temperament and personality and just wants to please you.

Sansa was a stray at a rural animal control facility and was not claimed by her owner. How her
previous owner didn't come for her is beyond comprehension. It's for the best though because
Sansa deserves a family who is as devoted to her as she will be to them. She needs to belong
in a home where she will not be allowed to roam free and get lost, and where she can be
confident in the fact that she is home forever and will never be lost or abandoned again.

Sansa would do well in pretty much any home situation. She is calm and quiet indoors, which is
pretty amazing given her high energy type and the fact she is still a pup. She would do best in a
house so she has lots of room to roam, however besides a bit of whining she is super quiet in
her crate and will be fine in an apartment if given the proper exercise. She enjoys all forms of
exercise whether it be a walk down the street, a stroll down the trails, playing with the resident
dogs in the backyard or playing some fetch in the house! She is a fairly high energy dog and
does require good exercise to keep her calm when in the house. If it is pouring outside she can
make do with quick trips out for potty breaks and then playing inside with her humans. Sansa
has been taken on walks about town and also on walks in the wooded trails. She loves to go for
walks and does well using her gentle leader, she needs this to keep from choking herself as she
is just so excited to smell and see everything!

What Sansa loves best though is snuggles and pets. Sansa is an absolute doll and gets the
signature boxer bum wiggle when you call her name. She is happiest when she is where you
are and getting pets as she sits by your side or when she's getting belly rubs as she's lying at
your feet. She can't get enough love and affection, she will snuggle right into you to make sure
that she is close enough. We really think she didn't get a lot of attention or love in her previous
home so she's going for all she can get now! Sansa will allow you to do anything to her if she's
told she's a good girl and a couple pets or treats accompany it. She likes to be brushed, though
with having such short hair it doesn't happen very often. She is good with allowing you to handle
her paws in order to trim her nails. Sansa has been such a good girl during her stay with us and
to top it off has been perfectly housetrained, not a single accident. She is also crate trained and
sleeps in her crate at night and stays in her crate when we are away from the house. She has
been an easy dog to foster and an even easier dog to love. Outrageous that she was allowed to
become an unclaimed stray.

Sansa is good with dogs and has settled in nicely with her foster dog sisters. From the day we
picked her up she has never been shy when it comes to playing with the other dogs and has no
problem with sharing toys. The dogs can often be found playing tug of war for hours on end.

While Sansa gets along really well with other dogs, it is not necessary for her to go to a home
with other dogs. If she is going to be an only dog, you will have to make up for that extra energy
that she will need to burn off. Sansa would do just as well being the only dog and getting all the
attention to herself. Sansa is also well behaved with the cats and ignores them for the most
part, it's only once in awhile she gets the urge to play but listens when the cat tells her she's
done. Sansa absolutely loves kids, she is so gentle with them and goes to them when she
wants some extra long pets. Sansa has been exposed to kids as little as 2 years old and was
very respectful of their need for space. Sansa is a soft dog, with a gentle nature, it is important
that if she goes to a home with children that those children are aware of how to treat an animal
and to be respectful of her need for space.

Sansa is being taught basic obedience in her foster home and now knows "sit", “off” and “come”.
While Sansa is very bouncy, it's like her back legs have springs, she has only tried to jump on
her humans a few times and is learning very quickly that she gets more pets and attention if she
keeps her paws on the ground. Sansa’s new family should commit to continuing her obedience
training to bring out the best in this smart dog.

Since the day we brought Sansa home she has settled in as if she always lived here. She's not
one to complain, she loves running and playing tug of war with her toys, but she also loves a
really good snuggle on the couch for a nap! Sansa has also done really well on her car rides so
far and generally lays down, once in a while she let's out a few whines to let you know she is still
there. Sansa is a wonderful little girl with a huge heart and just wants to be a part of your life. If
you are an active person and looking for a new companion then Sansa may be the girl for you!
Sansa is looking for her forever home to share all of her love with, can you be that person she
needs?
