In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Barry is a four year old, eight pound, beautiful red and creamy white Shih Tzu. The one word to describe this special little guy is “sweetheart”. He will instantly melt your heart and you will want to scoop him up and take him in. He is a sweet, cuddly, loveable, playful and talkative boy. He will really make you smile and laugh all day long.

Barry does well with friendly dogs of all sizes, cats and respectful older children. His house training is excellent when following a set routine for going outside. His foster mom takes him out every three hours on a regular basis. He is learning to go on walks and is enjoying them more and more. He is such a great dog!

Barry came into rescue with some undisclosed medical issues, displaying some weakness, shaking, and unsure footing. When he experienced some seizures, the veterinarian prescribed medication for him and it made a huge difference. It was like he became a totally different dog! He is now happy and confident, has an upbeat personality, and is stronger and sure footed. And overall he is a much happier boy.

He also has a stage 3-4 heart murmur. It has not caused any physical restrictions and does not require medication, but this condition will need to be monitored by the veterinarian. Barry will require daily seizure medication for the rest of his life and the adopter will have to commit to regular vet checks. His foster family will only consider applicants that understand are willing and able to make sure that Barry gets the care he needs, and who will be home with him most of the day and evening.

Barry is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventive. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $23.28 sales tax for a total of $343.28. His foster family would like his adopters to live within the Twin Cities and hope that they will come to the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September every year.

To meet Barry, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the first Saturday of every month.
