We are looking to place this dog within a 2.5 hour radius of Washington, DC but we can also consider other areas IF we have a volunteer that can accomplish a home visit and we have a safety net. Other areas could be North Carolina, southern areas of Virginia, Pittsburgh, PA area, Denver, CO area, San Diego area, San Francisco Area, Portland area and Seattle area.
Rika and her sister Bindi are somewhat bonded and ideally we would like to place them in the same home. However, we will consider splitting them up but ONLY if an interested family/person already has a young, smallish playful dog in their home. NEITHER RIKA NOR BINDI WOULD DO WELL AS AN ONLY DOG.
Rika was rescued from the Okinawa Prefecture Animal Control Center in Okinawa Japan along with 2 other siblings. She is 8 months old and a very friendly playful pup. She is being fostered with her sister Bindi and although they get along great and it would be wonderful if they could find a home together, they are not particularly bonded. Bindi is more independent but Rika gets cues from Bindi so we feel that Rika would do best with another young, small dog in the house. Rika is mostly house-broken (will have occasional accidents) and is crate trained. She's good about chewing on toys (instead of inappropriate things) but like most puppies, sometimes she may slip up. Rika is currently being fostered with elementary school aged children. She jumps and will use her mouth when playing so homes with children 6+ would be best. Rika will need regular grooming (factor that into the cost of dog ownership) and she is not a low shedding dog. Rika has all vaccinations, micro-chip and has been spayed. She is current on heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative. She is heart worm negative. Rika's adoption fee is $500. If a family is interested in adopting both Bindi and Rika, we will reduce the adoption fees to $850 for both puppies. Rika weighs 17 pounds and will likely not get any bigger. She does pretty good on the leash and is really a delightful little dog.
