We are looking to place this dog within a 2.5 hour radius of Washington, DC but we can also consider other areas IF we have a volunteer that can accomplish a home visit and we have a safety net. Other areas could be North Carolina, southern areas of Virginia, Pittsburgh, PA area, Denver, CO area, San Diego area, San Francisco Area, Portland area and Seattle area.

Rika and her sister Bindi are somewhat bonded and ideally we would like to place them in the same home. However, we will consider splitting them up but ONLY if an interested family/person already has a young, smallish playful dog in their home. NEITHER RIKA NOR BINDI WOULD DO WELL AS AN ONLY DOG.

Rika was rescued from the Okinawa Prefecture Animal Control Center in Okinawa Japan along with 2 other siblings. She is 8 months old and a very friendly playful pup. She is being fostered with her sister Bindi and although they get along great and it would be wonderful if they could find a home together, they are not particularly bonded. Bindi is more independent but Rika gets cues from Bindi so we feel that Rika would do best with another young, small dog in the house. Rika is mostly house-broken (will have occasional accidents) and is crate trained. She's good about chewing on toys (instead of inappropriate things) but like most puppies, sometimes she may slip up. Rika is currently being fostered with elementary school aged children. She jumps and will use her mouth when playing so homes with children 6+ would be best. Rika will need regular grooming (factor that into the cost of dog ownership) and she is not a low shedding dog. Rika has all vaccinations, micro-chip and has been spayed. She is current on heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative. She is heart worm negative. Rika's adoption fee is $500. If a family is interested in adopting both Bindi and Rika, we will reduce the adoption fees to $850 for both puppies. Rika weighs 17 pounds and will likely not get any bigger. She does pretty good on the leash and is really a delightful little dog.

About Doggies Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

D.O.G.S. (Doggie Orphans Great & Small or for short Doggies Inc) is a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to making a difference for neglected, abused and unwanted animals. We rescue animals from “death row” at various shelters, get all vetting done and help them to find forever homes.

Doggies Inc has three branches. One in Okinawa, Japan where most of our animals are rescued, one in Southern Maryland, and one in southern California.

Okinawa Branch

Many animals are abandoned due to family situations, the economy, and military permanent change of stations.
Our main goal is to help the dogs and cats that find their way to the Okinawa Prefecture Animal Protection & Control Center (Ozato). Over 2000 dogs and double the number of cats were gassed at this facility in 2012. Since then, due to the efforts of education and rescue groups being allowed into the facility to pull adoptable animals, vet them and then find them good homes, those numbers have steadily declined. We not only rescue animals from the facility ourselves but we also are working hard to get the word out about this facility so that people will choose to adopt an animal in need as opposed to buying a pet from a pet store or breeder.

Our secondary goal is to provide people, especially military families, with information on how to leave the island with their pet when they leave Japan for their next duty station. No one really wants to leave their pet behind but it can be very frustrating if accurate information is not easily accessible. We want to guide people in the right directions and answer basic questions about taking their pets with them when they leave Japan.

Our third goal is to help reunite people with pets that have been lost. We provide people with the steps they need to take to claim their pet if it ends up at the Okinawa Prefecture Animal Control Center (Ozato) in the event he/she gets picked up off base by animal control.

California Branch

In 2007 there were 391,457 dogs and cats euthanized in CA public shelters. Doggies Inc California's main goal is the rescue these dogs and cats out of the local shelters, get them fully vetted and adopt them out to forever homes. We pull out of many shelters in Southern California.

Maryland Branch - mostly handles dogs that have been rescued in Okinawa and are transported to the states to find their "fur-ever" people.
