In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

If you are looking for a happy, lively, sweet girl, Heidi is your perfect companion! She is an 8 year old, 16 pound Shih Tzu/Coton de Tulear mix. Heidi is happy when she sits with you while you read or watch television, happy to take a long walk with you, happy to play squeak toys with you, just happy to be with her family! When Heidi looks at you with her beautiful face and those loving eyes, you just melt. At night, Heidi will sleep on her blanket next to your bed or in bed with you. She doesn’t care as long as she can be near you! Heidi enjoys all the people she meets and gets along very well with other dogs. She is also house trained.

Heidi came into rescue because her owners, who were seniors, could no longer care for her. But they took wonderful care of both her health and happiness, as evident in her endearing personality. A few years back Heidi’s family noticed she was experiencing some pain in her left rear leg when walking. So Heidi’s vet at that time prescribed a drug called Adequan. It is an injection that is given to Heidi in her shoulder once every three weeks. The medication is very effective and keeps her pain free and agile. In fact, she flies up and down her foster mom’s three-level townhome all day long and walks over a mile a day! So Heidi’s new family must be willing to continue giving her plenty of walking exercise and continue her routine injections. It is a simple shot given under Heidi’s skin in her shoulder and easy to do yourself. Our veterinary surgeon looked at Heidi’s x-rays and confirmed that Heidi’s issue is not severe. However, she does recommend that Heidi stay slim so that additional weight is not added to her leg. Heidi loves to exercise though, so keeping her trim is not a problem as long as her food intake is monitored.

Heidi is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventive. Her adoption fee is $220.00 plus $16.01 sales tax for a total of $236.01. Her foster family would like Heidi’s adopters to live within 30 miles of the Twin Cities and commit to coming to the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September every year.

To meet Heidi, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the first Saturday of every month.
