My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jasper is just a big, lovable, gentle soul in search of his forever person. He has spent time with a professional trainer already and is learning so quickly. The perfect home for Jasper would continue to spend time with him on the commands he knows, and even teach him some new ones. This should be easy AND fun, because Jasper loves treats, and he loves training. He already knows Sit, Lay Down, Off (the couch), Leave It, Come and few others. He is terrific on a leash, loves car rides more than anything, is crate trained and house broken, and has great manners inside.
We estimate Jasper to be 1.5 - 2 years old, he is about 65 lbs and his breed is anybody’s guess since he came into rescue as a stray. But he looks like a Great Dane mixed with Black Lab to us, and he has the softest, fluffiest fur coat you will ever pet!! His current foster mom would tell you that he is an all-around great dog ; very loyal and stays right by her side even in the open yard. If there were another dog in the house, Japser would like to play and run around the yard at full speed! He would be the follower for sure, not the leader.
We do notice that he is leary of strangers at times and has even been known to bark loudly if someone new approaches too fast. This is probably because of his ‘stray’ beginnings, and a strange foster home, etc. We believe that in the right home, with some training and confidence building, Jasper will learn to trust.
*We are a small group of dedicated volunteers and hope home checks are a requirement of adoption. We ask the adopters live within a 50 miles radius of his foster home in Wheaton Illinois. Also visit www.animalheartline.org to fill out an application or find other adoptable dogs like Jasper.
