Charlie's story is blessed, to understand you must first learn about his Momma. His momma Georgina was dumped incredibly sick and very pregnant in the Palm Valley of Texas which border Mexico. This ia NOT a good area for dogs and by the grace of God, or some devine entity, she found her way to the shelter where a contacted advertised her and High Plains PAW president saw her, her condition, and knew if she didn't act quickly her outcome wouldn't be positive. By some miracle a foster stepped up named Kim. Kim knew that Georgina was Heartworm positive, had a tick born virus, and was suffering from severe Demodex mange. Her mange was treated and she was given a VERY low dose of Doxcy to help with the Heartworms and Tick born illnesses that she had. A couple weeks after Kim had her she gave birth to 17, yes you read that correctly, 17 puppies. We wee concerned for the littlest of them all but with Kims help and care even he pulled through.
3 Weeks after they were born Georgina became incredibly sick. We feared pyrometra, even though she had been to the vet weekly since pups were whelped, and it was decided to do an emergency spay, which had risks with her being in such horrible condition, (although she had gained a solid amount of weight and her skin was clear), and being heartworm positive but there wasn't much option. We truly thought that she would live. What happened was that once opened up it became clear that the MASSIVE litter had truly killed her. It had pushed all her organs so high that her liver actually was dying and if we cut that part that was dead out, she would still have a horrible quality of life. We, along with the vet weighed our decision incredibly carefully, and the decision was made to not wake our amazing momma up from surgery. This wasn't made lightly, buckets of tears were shed, and we were all crushed. What made our hearts happy was to know that according to the vet, she never should have made it through whelping, and certainly shouldn't have lived 3 weeks after whelping.
Georgina lived long enough to know she was so incredibly loved and cared for. To see all her pups open their eyes, to know all her pups will only know love and the best homes. She literally gave her life to see her puppies safe. Her story is heartbreaking, however she very much lives on in the lives of her 17 furry, thriving bundles of joy. Now that it is time for all of these dolls to find their furever families we know we have quite the task cut out for us, but these pups will only know the best of what the world has to offer.
Charlie is a male 7 week old rottweiler mix who follows the crowd, and he is always down to jump in on the party! We believe that dad may have been a Mastiff however there is no way to know for certain. These dogs will be large, momma should have weighed 70=75lbs healthy. We believe that she was a purbred Rottweiler. She was a stunning girl with the most amazing personality and each of her pups are so funny, social, and smart.
