My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kona Blu is a stunning Australian Shepherd / Border Collie Mix … 4 years old … that is highly intelligent, super loving and protective! Kona Blu is an amazing dog that may be too smart for his own good. In true Border Collie/Aussie fashion he needs both mental and physical stimulation but is not a hyper dog and he loves to lay at your feet or on the couch if allowed. He must have a strong pack leader with experience with either of these breeds that will commit to further training and will get him involved in agility, herding trials, frisbee or some other kind of mentally stimulating activity. Kona loves water and loves to swim and play in it! He goes on daily walks where he can swim in a pond or a creek and that is one of his favorite things to do. He knows several tricks (sit, shake, lay, roll over) and could be trained to do so much more! Because of his high intelligence and protective nature, and because his previous owners were not as in tuned to the quirky behaviors that Aussies and Border Collies may have, he was allowed to get away with small things at first but those turned into full blown protection of “his person” and he became snappy toward others (both dog and persons) who tried to get to close to "his person." He now loves his foster mom and tries to be protective of her but the behavior of being snappy is not tolerated and when corrected he is very obedient. Bottom line is he wants to please his owner and can be very easily trained by a strong leader.

Kona is fully house and crate trained. He can jump/climb a 5’ fence so a 6’ fence is required for his new home for play time - he should be an indoor dog primarily. He is microchipped, up to date on vaccines, neutered and heartworm negative. He is being fostered in Huntsville, AL, but available in other areas for the right home.
