My name is Cailin and I am a 2 yr, Maltese and West Highland Terrier blend. I am up to date with all of my shots, spayed and microchipped. I sleep comfortably in my own room sanctuary through the night, my humans like to call my little room my crate, so I guess you can say that I am crate trained at night. I am also familiar with the uses of a pee pad, although I much prefer to relieve myself outside while on a walk or while investigating for squirrels in the backyard.
How I ended up in this predicament:
I think I had a home once. I say this because I am just too lovable, sweet and well behaved. Somehow I ended up being a stray on the streets of south Los Angeles and a Good Samaritan brought me in to a local city shelter. At that time, I was covered in fleas and ticks from the tip of my muzzle to the end of my tail and everywhere in between. Oh, did I mention that I weighed 18 lbs at that time, most of which was because I was carrying 5 lbs of puppies inside of me? A volunteer groomer was kind enough to give me a "mercy grooming" and shaved my matted hair so that I would be more comfortable going into my spay surgery. A kind shelter vet tech patiently removed each and every tick and made sure that my skin started healing. My puppies were aborted by the shelter vet when they did my spay and I was subsequently made available to rescue when no one visiting the shelter from the public seemed interested in adopting me.
I was lucky enough to have been rescued by the kind folks at Ken-Mar Rescue.
On my "freedom" day, I was whisked to the Ken-Mar Rescue vet where I was given a full check up. Their vet determined that I was healthy enough to be put under to undergo a complete dental cleaning and surgically removed my detached hind dew claws at the same time.
I am now back to a healthy weight of 14 lbs. My hair is growing back shiny, healthy and most of all with a gorgeous hint of apricot in it. That's a huge improvement from my ghostly grey hair that I had not too long ago after giving all of my nutrients to my unborn puppies while pregnant on the streets.
I am currently in foster care awaiting my forever home.
My ideal home will have:
-Gentle humans that are kind and will take me on daily walks, play with me and take me on adventures with them.
-Preferably (but not necessary) a yard where I can sniff the grass, sun bathe and go chasing butterflies.
-Someone to love.
