Emme (fka Effie)'s Story...
Name: Emme (fka Effie)
Breed: shih tzu mix
Approximate Age: 9-10 years
Approximate Weight: 11 lbs.
Personality: super sweet
Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs
Observations with Cats: Not interested in cats
Observations with Kids: Great with gentle children
Currently Living at: Foster home in DC region. Needs adopter!
Emme is as sweet as she is adorable. This very special lady needs a very special adopter. Emme hates being away from her humans, even for just a short time. She's working on this with a wonderful trainer, but needs a dedicated and patient adopter who can keep up with her training to reinforce that it will be okay when she is left alone. That can be reinforced, but it takes time and consistency.
Ideally, she would love a home where she doesn't have to be left alone all day, and we think she would benefit from a home with another dog who is confident.
She is older (really, middle-aged for a dog of her size and breed), but still has plenty of pep and spunk! She does well with older children who know to be gentle with a small dog, and she is great with dogs and cats. She loves to cuddle with her humans and is playful.
If you think you might have what it takes to help Emme come to appreciate the good life in a loving forever home, we'd love to have a longer conversation about her needs and have you meet her.
Emme is working on housetraining and is not a fan of being crated, but her amazing foster parents are working with her on these things.

About DC PAWS Rescue
Our rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based dog and cat rescue in the DC area. We rescue from Pickens County, SC (see additional information below), as well as DC local area shelters, such as Prince Georges County, MD and Wicomico County, MD.
We partner with a local rescuer in Pickens County, SC, who saves adoptable cats and dogs from the county’s animal control facility, which lacks the resources to facilitate adoptions to the public. Without a mechanism for local adoptions, all animals not claimed within the mandated hold period are euthanized. For the animals in this rural area, rescue is really the only lifeline. Our rescue partner not only works with DC PAWS to save as many dogs and cats as possible, but she has also established a successful spay/neuter clinic in the community to decrease the number of homeless and unwanted animals over the long term.
BE A FOSTER:
Fosters make it possible for DC PAWS to save and care for homeless, neglected and abandoned animals! To learn about fostering dogs or cats for DC PAWS Rescue, please visit: http://dcpawsrescue.org/volunteer/fostering/foster-application
BE A SPONSOR:
For any of our animals! Sponsors help us provide critical medical care, food, boarding and other support for animals facing euthanasia. Individuals who sponsor a dog or cat receive special recognition on the animal's profile. Sponsorships can also be made in honor or memory of a loved one, and you may designate to whom DC Paws Rescue should provide notice of your gift.
