Facts about Alfie

Alfie,  was adopted by a family in April of 2015 when he was just a young pup and is a SoCo Alumni. His adopted family seemed like the perfect match and after our initial followup checks, all seemed to be going very well. But recently, we found out that not to be true and of no fault to Alfie.

While Alfie's mom loves and adores him, his “dad” is very harsh and verbally abusive towards him, threatening to shoot Alfie and even saying he “don't care what happens to him”. This has caused Alfie, now 2 years old, to grow into a very scared, reserve adult dog. His family recently asked us to help find Alfie a new home. We did find a temporary foster home for Alfie, but it didn't work out as Alfie also now needs to be an only dog so he is back with his family. Then today the man started screaming and yelling at Alfie, according to his mom and Alfie became so terrified that he bit the man. This has resulted in the man demanding that Alfie be removed from the home ASAP or he'll dump Alfie at a local kill shelter.

I as well as others had the pleasure to spend some time with Alfie during our recent fundraiser in New Jersey. While he seemed timid around us at first, Alfie quickly warmed up to all who interacted with him, even to the point that he was walking with them with no signs of aggressive behavior. So impressive was Alfie that it was during this same fundraiser that the temporary foster home was found. And that couple only spent a little time around him! Again, he did very well with the couple, no signs of aggressive behavior at all, it's just that Alfie didn't do well with their other dog.

Alfie isn't a lost cause nor do we believe he will be aggressive towards others. But he will need a foster/adopter who doesn't have other dogs and we'd even say no young children or disruptive household. Alfie would make someone a great companion if that person understands that you can't scream, yell or be abusive towards him.

PLEASE help us find Alfie a foster/adopter/rescue that can help this boy continue to live. At this time and due to things beyond our control, we can't take Alfie back into our rescue or I'd personally drive up and get him.

Alfie is currently in the Pennington, NJ area. He's been fully vetted, house trained and walks very well on a leash. He's not destructive, is well mannered (except when being abused!) and is really a gentle fellow. We're not looking for any adoption fees, we just desire to help keep him safe. But we will do our best to make sure your home is proper for him.

Please contact Scott Bennett or Jenn Hurley at socorescue8@gmail.com if you can help save Alfie's life or submit an application at socorescue.com

About Southern Comfort Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Our rescue is licensed through the State Dept. of Agriculture, with regular inspections being made by them. We are in no way a "puppy mill", rather we take in the stray, abandoned and sick/injured pets and get them back to adoptable status.
We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and do accept and survive on donations from adopters and/or the general public.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We do not have a facility that has set hours of operations. This is not a problem for our adopters because it allows us to meet them with prospective pets in many locations - most are much closer to where they live. We travel to many places in Georgia so if you see someone you like, let us know and we'll see if we can meet you somewhere relatively close by.

Our Adoption Process...

We have a simple process to follow in adopting an animal from us: fill out an application, wait a few days and pay our fee when everything is approved!
We have a bit more that we do. After reviewing the application we have to check references and with their vet, then we can send the pet to his new home.
