11/3/17 Max had a successful heart surgery and recovery. His next follow up appt at UT Knoxville Veterinary Hospital is on December 20. He will see his cardiologists, have another Echocardiogram, and his adoption status determined.
9?6?17 UPDATE: Over the Holiday weekend Max reached the $1000 fund raising goal for his heart surgery at UTK! His surgical account has $1640, which includes the $589 he started with. The additional funds, $360 and any over $2000, will be helped by any donations coming in before his surgery date. He will need post-operative follow-up locally at Community Animal Hospital with Dr. Brittain.
Max's heart surgery is scheduled for Friday, 9/22. He will arrive at UTK at 11:20 on Thursday 9/21 to meet his surgeons, complete a pre-operative examination, and admitted inpatient for surgery next morning. If all goes well, we will travel back to UTK on Saturday 9/23 and bring Max back for recuperation. Max will not immediately return to The Ark general population.
Max's surgery, his after care, and adoption date will be posted here on Facebook. Thanks to everyone for their generous donations, allowing his precious young dog to live a long and healthy life. Thank you for your continued prayers.
UPDATE: MAX saw the cardiologist at UTK. An Echocardiogram showed he has a patent ductus arteriosis. He is currently fund raising for a surgical procedure to correct the open duct. My name is MAX! I'm a three year old, 7 pound, black and white, male, Long Haired Chihuahua. I was surrendered by my former human, who had too many dogs to care for me. I have been to Community Animal Hospital, for comprehensive vetting. I received: Veterinarian Physical and Dental Examinations, Veterinarian administered vaccinations, Neuter, an extra tooth was extracted, fecal analysis, de-worming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention. During examination, a heart murmur was auscultated. Radiographs show an enlarged heart. Dr. Britain has referred me to UT Veterinary Hospital for a Cardiology consult. That appointment is August 15. I am 'partially' housebroken. I am learning to walk on leash. I get along well with other dogs. My adoption fee is $150 to help offset the cost of my comprehensive vetting.
