Gidget is an adorable puppy who was born in January 2017. She is a special needs little girl, who is looking for a loving, experienced family to provide a safe forever home.

Gidget has green eyes and a beautiful long white hair coat. She is only 4.5 pounds. She may add another pound as she grows, but we believe she will always be a smaller Chihuahua.

Wow - this girl is amazing. The first thing you need to know is that Gidget is a special needs dog. She is deaf. But she does not let this slow her down. She has a wonderful outgoing personality. It is impossible not to fall in love with her!

Gidget gets along great with the small dogs in her foster home. She loves to play with them and will instigate play time. She enjoys wrestling and tumbling with her siblings. She also loves toys. She will play with toys of all kinds - fuzzy toys, toy ropes and nyla-bones. This girl loves to carry toys around the house and leaves them in every room so one is always close! She also loves to run at full speed around the yard. She has such a joy to her. Because she cannot hear and she is small, you will need to stay in the yard with her to protect her from any danger that may be lurking. She is small enough to slip through small areas, so you will need to ensure your fence is very secure!

Gidget also adores her people. She is a huge snuggler and wants to be near you at all times. She will follow you around the house just to be part of your life. She loves to climb on your lap and snuggle while you watch TV. She enjoys belly rubs and will give you kisses to express her love. Gidget also enjoys hanging around in her foster Mom's home office (so if you work at home, she would love to be your companion!). Gidget loves to meet new people and is friendly to everyone she meets.

Gidget is a very loving and sweet little girl. She has obviously not been affected much by her lack of hearing. The good news is that she can sleep thru anything!!! With deaf dogs it is very important to understand how to work with their limitation. One of the results of being deaf is that they can not “hear” themselves bark so it is a high pitched bark. Because of her high pitch bark, an apartment would not be an appropriate home for Gidget. Getting a deaf dog’s attention means that you have to teach them to “look” for hand signals. You learn to use vibrations and gentle touch. Otherwise you can inadvertently create a very insecure and scared dog that reacts every time they are startled. So far, so good with Gidget. We are teaching Gidget sign language and will gladly teach this to her new family. She learned to “sit” in less than 1 hour and is doing an amazing job!

For a puppy, Gidget is doing great on her potty training. She is really good about going outside, and will use pee pee pads when you are not around to let her out. She will go into a crate, but doesn't like it because she does not like to be separated from her humans. So we put a blanket over her crate to make her feel safe. At bedtime, she would much rather snuggle in bed with you. She even will bring a toy to bed to share with you – LOL.

Because of her size, and her special needs, we recommend an all adult home or a home with older mature children (teenagers) for Gidget. Due to her high pitch vocalizations, we will only consider applicants who own their own residence.

If you are looking for a young affectionate dog, Gidget is your girl.
