Herrow!  I'm Astro, and I'm out-of-this-world handsome! Once you turn your gaze to me, you'll be taken in by my gravitational pull. First, you'll notice my gorgeous light gray and brindle coat. It's stunning! Like moon-beams and stardust. Next you might think that my big, smiling noggin is almost a small planet all on its own! Before you know it, you'll be going in for a hug. It's really hard to take your eyes off me. Yep, I'm not ashamed to say it... I'm pretty darn handsome!  Some people say I'm a big meatball.  I mean, sure, I like walks and stuff, but I'm also kind of a couch potato.    OK, actually, I love the couch.
Recently, I've had some serious training, and the word on the street is that I'm an all-time favorite of the trainers! I love to please my people and in turn I get lots of love and affection for being so good.  I do like and need the structure as I enjoy working for my person.    But just between you and me, once we’ve done some work, I love to go lay in my crate or on the couch to rest. I am really sweet but I am also a big strong guy, so I need a family that is experienced with bigger dogs like me and one that will keep up with my training. Heck, as big as I am, I’ve even learned to do some agility stuff. Well, I'm not very fast at it, but there is a rumor that there may even be video of it. BOL!
I'm looking for my very own forever home - one with lots of love, treats, and a nice soft place to nap. Are you ready for a big, beautiful best friend like me?   Contact  to get started.
I Ruv You!

About Red Collar Rescue - Portland

About Our Rescue Group...

Red Collar Rescue is an all volunteer 501 (3)(C) animal welfare charity dedicated to providing rescue services, medical care, foster care, training and adoptive placement to stray and abandoned dogs and cats in Houston and surrounding areas. We adopt our pets to all 50 states and Canada.

Houston is sadly the #2 kill city in the U.S. There are 1.2M stray pets on our streets. The City Pound (“BARC”) often takes in 150-200 pets per day either as strays or owner surrenders. Almost a dozen other area shelters and pounds also take in dozens of homeless pets each day and many do not adopt to the public but transfer only to rescue groups. The number of homeless pets and resulting euthanasias are staggering -- the average "live release rate" from Houston area shelters is only about 35-50%. In addition, RCR works closely with the Houston Police Department on many cruelty case dogs. We are often a last resort for dogs who have faced unimaginable abuse and negligence, only to face euthanasia after being confiscated by the city government. Red Collar Rescue volunteers work tirelessly to save as many as we can, but the Houston area is saturated with so many pets in need of a home and not enough adopters. To put it simply, we encourage out of state adoptions because it helps us save more lives. We hope that you will consider one of our many adoptable pets who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home - wherever it may be!

Our Adoption Process...

Red Collar Rescue works hard to find the perfect home for all the dogs and cats in our care. Listed below is the sequence of events that we go through to assure that our pets and our applicants are the perfect match for each other:

1. Fill out and return our adoption application form.

2. After receiving your application, we will verify with your vet the care on your current or previous animals.

3. We will contact you to discuss your current situation and which pet you are interested in adopting.

4. After discussion, we will arrange a time for you to meet your prospective new family member.

5. If the initial meeting goes well, we make an appt and bring the pet to your home to meet all family members - human and furry.

6. Upon agreement by all parties, the adoption is finalized by signing the adoption contract and making an adoption donation for your newest family member.
