Patty is a 1-2 year old female Rottweiler/Shepherd mix who was rescued from a local animal control facility. She currently weighs 68 pounds. She is a friendly dog, who is ready to find her forever home!
Patty came to our rescue with severe skin allergies. After allergy testing, a hypoallergenic diet, and months of medications, treatments, and medicated baths, she is finally ready to be adopted!
Patty’s treatment regimen includes allergy shots that she takes weekly - they cost about $50/month - with time, she may be able to be weaned to wear she only takes them monthly, which would lessen the cost. She also takes cyclosporine, a drug that suppresses her immune system and helps keep her allergies under control. The cyclosporine costs about $70 a month. This medication can also be tapered hopefully over time, which could decrease the cost.
Allergic dermatitis is a condition that is controlled, not cured. Therefore Patty may have flare ups where she gets itchy and requires more treatment and veterinary attention throughout her life. Her allergies are under control now, but seasonal or environmental changes may affect them in the future. Adopting Patty means you should have a good relationship with your primary veterinarian and be committed to helping her stay comfortable and healthy.
If you are interested in adopting Patty and would like to discuss her condition further, please feel free to contact our medical staff!
