My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mango, Female, 3yrs, brown, 350.00 adoption fee

Meet Miss Mango.  She has to be one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever met – and we have fostered 15 dogs for the poodle people.  We believe Mango to be a Yorkie-poo who is 2-3 years old.  She has the most beautiful coat of shiny, apricot-colored hair and she does not shed.  Mango has lots of energy and is one happy dog.  She absolutely LOVES playing with our forever dog, Buster.  She and Buster have several play sessions per day where they are rolling and tumbling around the house and chasing each other.  It’s so much fun to watch and I’d love to see Mango go to a home with another playful dog for her to love.

Mango can be a bit hand-shy so she may slink away from you when you are trying to put the leash on.  We have never seen her display any aggression to humans or dogs (she is untested on cats).  She will get very excited when she is on a walk and sees another dog.  She barks and wiggles and hopes the other dog will stop and play with her.  Mango is good on a leash but she does tend to go from side to side and behind your back so active leash management is necessary.

Funny things that Mango does:

  • She loves to sit up on the back of the sofa
  • She is crate trained and actually puts herself to bed every evening
  • We think she was an interior designer in a former life because she loves to pull her bed out of her crate and drag it across the room and lay on it.  She also enjoys pulling the rugs out of the bathroom and making a pile of them in the living room for her to lay on.  She is not destructive, she just likes to redecorate.
  • She is a big-time butt-wiggler.  Her tail and butt wiggle together and it is the cutest thing.

Mango does have structural issues in her ear canals.  Her new guardian will need to be on the lookout for signs of infection or irritation.  Our vet and I came up with a plan that seems to work for keeping her ears clean and healthy.  Mango needs to take half a pill per day (just drop it in her food) of an allergy med called Apoquel (NCPR will provide two months’ worth to the adopter), and once per week she needs a natural solution put in her ears – I’m happy to provide a bottle to her new guardian.  This is a life-long issue for Mango, so her adopter needs to be diligent.

Mango’s past ear issues have resulted in a tilt to her head.  This is really no big deal and it makes her look as if she is always asking a question.  She also has a bit of directional hearing loss which is only evident when I call her and she can’t see me (she runs to my husband instead ;).  Her inner ear problem also makes her kind of clumsy – she rolls around on the couch and falls off or she misjudges when she jumps up on the bed.  None of these issues are very concerning and they only add to her character.

Mango is pretty much house trained (occasional accident when we neglect to take her out on schedule) and she LOVES riding in the car.  She is quite active and needs to be walked on a regular basis.  I would not recommend her for a senior household because she does get underfoot at times.

All in all, I have to say that it is going to be very hard for our family to give Mango up.  But our motto is “We can’t help the next one if we don’t find a home for this one.”  Whoever adopts Mango is going to be very lucky indeed.  Prepare to be charmed.

Dogs are vaccinated, microchipped  and spayed/neutered before adoption.

The necessary first step to inquire about any dog, is to complete the NCPR Adoption Interest Form. Once we receive the NCPR Adoption Interest Form, a volunteer will contact you promptly. We need your information to match you with the perfect companion. NorCal Poodle Rescue places dogs within northern California only.
