Facts about Casper

  • Breed: Great Pyrenees Mix
  • Color: White
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Meet Casper! He is our 1 year old, 3-legged Pyrenees. When we rescued Casper, he was missing the lower portion of his leg. However, itwas not genetic; we believe it to be the result of a tragic accident. Casper’s journey has been a long one filled with vet visits, therapy sessions, surgeries and a casting call for a brace for his good leg. The medical team originally thought he would be a good candidate for a prosthesis. Unfortunately, after further evaluation and surgery to remove more of the injured lower portion of his leg, it was determined that was not the case.  Instead, he has a brace on his good leg to help him support his large body. Through it all, this handsome boy has always had a great attitude, greeted everyone with a smile and tail wag, even an occasional kiss!

Casper is a laid back, friendly dog seeking a human buddy or family to call his own. He gets along with cats and dogs of all sizes. Casper wants nothing more than to have his own special human. He thrives on affection and is very loyal to his humans. He is a very personable dog with a huge loving heart.  Casper is calm and sweet in the house and loves to snuggle with you while you read or watch TV.   He loves to hang out in the yard on nice days and does a great job announcing anyone coming on to the property. He may only have three legs, but his bark (and size…a whopping 85 lbs!) is big enough to make anyone take notice. Having 3 legs doesn’t stop him from running and playing with other dogs and he occasionally enjoys a good game of chase.

Casper is now available for adoption through Parker Paws.  With therapy, he has come a long way in strengthening his body and gets around really well for a 3-legged dog his size. However, he is not done! Casper will require continued lifelong, daily strengthening exercises for his remaining hind leg to ensure he builds muscles and reaches and maintains his optimum capacity to ensure he is able to get about as well as possible. Casper will need a special home with a patient and dedicated owner to ensure he gets the continued care needed.
