My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome guy is Murdock. This 3-year-old boy was flown down to us late last year thanks to Pilots n Paws and one of our favorite pilots, Dr. Bob. Murdock had a very complex break in his front, right leg and we really weren't sure if we were going to be able to fix it. Unfortunately, broken legs become a complex situation for us because they are never "fresh" breaks since animals must be kept on a mandatory stray hold at the shelter and they don't have the resources to do complicated surgeries. That means that by the time we get the injured dog, our options are limited and complications are tougher. We honestly thought that the only option for Murdock was amputation and even though 3 legged dogs do just fine, they are surprisingly difficult to find homes for. Luckily, our vet felt that it was possible to stabilize Murdock's broken leg and save it so we gave it a shot. He had external pins for a while, went thru quite a bit of rehab and it isn't necessarily pretty but he is stable and has full use of all 4 legs. He can run, jump, and play with the best of them so he would be a great candidate for a moderately active home where he can get his energy out daily. Murdock LOVES his people and enjoys being at your side. He seems to have some training, knows things like "sit" and "shake", and he has been pretty well behaved out in public. He has also done relatively well around other dogs but his one flaw is that he resource guards his food around other dogs. We would love to see him get a home with a large female companion but feedings would need to be kept separate so he can eat in peace and get back to play time. Now that his rehab is complete, Murdock will be joining us at the rescue in Fillmore, ca for adoptions.
