Otis is Shar Pei mix, estimated to be about 5-8 years old. He was found in March in South Carolina. He was likely left on the side of the road. He was out there for at least a week before he could get comfortable enough to get a leash on him. He is a little shy, but he is very sweet. He is goofy and has lots of energy. He loves belly rubs and butt scratchs. He loves being outside, going on walks, and eating. He likes to have a bed or rug or crate to sleep in & snores and makes funny noises. He seems to be a little wary of men, but has been very friendly to people. He has had a few instances of snapping at feet or hands and did bite my former roommate once. He seems to do this maybe out of protection or nerves. This behavior has never been shown towards me or any guests, only towards roommates who are not around often. He would be best with a single person, or in an environment with consistent family around him. Good with kids he has been around, but not around them for long periods of time. Not good with cats.

He is having hip surgery in early June from a dislocated hip. The vet says he should do well with this surgery. He will be on a joint supplement and pain meds (which require routine bloodwork) long-term. He is in good health, up to date on shots, no heartworm. His x-rays showed that he has Bee Bees in him from being shot, so his waryness towards people is understandable. He's had it pretty tough, it seems, and he is so sweet and goofy & he just deserves the world.
