My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOTTIE is a 12-year-old spayed female black lab. Dottie weighs 91 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION From foster: Dottie has been wonderful. She is a sweetheart. Dottie has been left out in the house while we were at work and didn't pull a thing out of place. She was friendly when the dog walker stopped in to let her out and was a perfect guest visiting foster grandparents this weekend. She is pretty good on leash, despite her size. She doesn't pull and seems to enjoy walks. She chased a bunny in the yard and was eyeing up some squirrels and would have chased them if she was off leash. Dottie gets along fine with the resident dog and cat. She snoozes a lot, generally on the dog bed or floor, but she has scrambled onto the couch twice. Dottie does fine in the car, no trouble or reluctance to travel. Also was a trooper when we took her to the dog salon for a bath, a little reluctant to walk up the ramp but once in the tub, she was resigned to the bath and very cooperative. Dottie is just such a sweetheart, she is super friendly, calm demeanor, and very easy going. Loves to get scratches, especially on her belly! Dottie is a friendly, outgoing, and happy-go-lucky girl. She used to live in a home with other dogs, so she needs to be adopted with another dog. She is housetrained and is used to roam around in a yard. Dottie is good with cats.
Dottie was an owner surrender to another rescue when the husband in the home passed away and the wife moved into a smaller place.

Update: Dottie has added groundhogs to the animals she wants to keep your yard clear of. She came across a snake in the yard and was curious and sniffed it but didn't feel obligated to confront it. She's an adventurous gal! Dottie is looking forward to a weekend full of outside lounging (she lays in the grass when not sprinting after critters) and lots of belly rubs. Dottie might be one of the sweetest and happiest dogs I have ever met! She took all the activity of the adoption event in stride, and always had a wagging tail, smile on her face and wiggly tush! Adorable Dottie is a great companion and seems to like all humans she meets. She has wonderful house manners and is so eager for neck rubs and belly rubs. Dottie has been losing a few pounds and is easy to walk. She is showing more interest in some toys and tennis balls. She is great in the car for both short trips, and longer ones!

Update: Dottie is on vacation! Dottie is always great in the car so the ride to the beach was no problem. She explored the house and likes looking out the sliding glass door when people walk by. She had a visit to the beach, think she may prefer the AC of a house. She waded with us but had no interest in swimming. The busyness of the beach didn't bother her and she liked when people would stop to pet her. Back at the house now, she is stretched out on the floor with a fan blowing on her. Dottie is super easy going with people and low energy, no long walks needed. She's good with the resident dogs but doesn't always like the dogs she meets on walks. Dottie is an easy laid back girl. She is the perfect hostess during social events at her fosters home. She can be found mixing and mingling with guests and enjoys the attention. She can't wait to meet YOU!

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Physical fence required

Dottie is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.
