My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COALSON is a 1.5-year-old neutered male black lab. Coalson weighs 62 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION Coalson was found as a stray and had some obvious discomfort in his back right leg. Upon initial examination by the shelter vet, it was thought to be an old injury to his ankle and possible arthritis. The Lab Rescue vet thinks Coalson may have been hit by a car in the past and has muscle atrophy and could have had some nerve damage. There is no evidence of broken bones. Coalson is good with other dogs and does well meeting new dogs on a leash. From the vet: very sweet!

Update: Coalson is an energetic boy who is very sweet. He is house trained and is content in the crate and sleeps through the night. He is very quiet. He enjoys other dogs and people but wants to chase squirrels/birds and is very strong. He is happy to be near you and will just lay on the dog bed while you watch tv. He is working on learning his commands. He is skinny and needs to put on a few pounds, so he might be tempted to check the counters if you leave something yummy up there. Coalson has gotten more and more comfortable in our house with each passing day. He gets along well with our resident lab. He enjoys meeting people. He is walking better with the leash, and learned to go up and down on both the "open" deck stairs and the stairs inside our home. Today he learned the command "sit". We are extremely pleased and believe he will pick up other commands more quickly now. He still needs training and the the puppy in him has emerged and wants to play. He has bursts of high energy and then wants to just sit and snuggle. He is very content to lay (and lean) at your feet.

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: No Fence Required

Coalson is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. For now, to avoid this we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. After Coalson has been in a foster home for at least a week or two, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.
