My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

9/4/17 - IVE BEEN ADOPTED!
Adoption Fee: $375
Fostered in Louisiana
Age: 4 years
Weight: 5.2 lbs.

8/17/17 - Sophie received her 2nd round of heartworm treatment and is doing very well. She has been a champ through this all and had no complications. She will be ready for her permanent family as soon as the right application for her comes along.

One thing that has come to her foster mom's attention is that Sophie is pure terrier through and through. She is obsessed with stalking and chasing any type prey, i.e., squirrels, birds, lizards, etc. when outside. She is absolutely mentally focused on this. She has caught a few lizards and geckos and, well, lets just say Sophie is all terrier. A backyard without as many trees and wildlife would be ideal for Sophie. She is a sweet little girl, but is a tomboy outside.

5/26/17 - Sophie found herself in need of some medical attention and a new home when her last family did not have enough time for her. She entered her foster home not long ago and we will let you know what we have learned so far. First the bad news.... Sophie is heartworm positive. We have already started her on Doxycycline and Advantage Multi. The Doxycycline will be for 30 days and the Advantage Multi for 90. After three months, then we will start heartworm treatment. This usually last 2 months. So, for anyone interested, SOPHIE CANNOT BE ADOPTED UNTIL SHE COMPLETES HEARTWORM TREATMENT – APPROXIMATELY 5 MONTHS FROM NOW.

Sophie is a very sweet little girl who is in a foster home with 4 other small female dogs and co-exists with them just fine. She does not try to play with them but doesn’t seem to be bothered by them. She is a hearty little eater cleaning her bowl twice a day. She sleeps in the bed with her foster mom and fur foster siblings. She waits to be put up on the bed, sofa, or chair, but can jump down on her own (on a bench in front of the bed). She seems to like women and men alike and even isn’t bothered by the foster mom’s grandson, as long as he isn’t pulling on her hair or ears. She doesn’t seem to be interested in toys so we assume she just doesn’t care about them or never experienced them.

Sophie does well with her potty habits if brought outside enough, but has and will make mistakes if not let out enough. This girl is definitely a lap baby and always wants to be in your lap if you are sitting. Giving kisses is one of her favorite past times as well. Normal household noises do not seem to bother her, but bad weather scares her and she will look to you for comforting.

She follows her foster mom everywhere and her tail is always wagging. She does bark, but it isn’t excessive.... unless the neighbors dog is outside when she is and then her inner Napoleon comes out and she barks and barks. We were told that Sophie is an escape artist and nothing should be left to chance. She will need to be picked up when someone is coming in the door and her backyard will need to be made Sophie escape proof. She was not spayed previously and now is, so we are hoping that some of her eagerness to roam was because she wasn’t spayed. But, we will not leave anything to chance and neither should her new home.

So to sum up Sophie - sweet, adorable, loving, attentive, fine with other small dogs, awesome companion and just the right size. We just know that in approximately 5 months when her heartworm treatment is complete, she will have already picked out her last name. I know it is a long wait, but this is one of the reasons that heartworm prevention is so important in a dog’s life. Spread the word. Until then, her name is Sophie with Yorkie Haven Rescue.
