My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! It's so nice to meet you! My name is Truman, won't you let me tell you a little bit about myself so that we can get to know each other better?

I am a 2 year old neutered male Shih Tzu who was found as a stray in Detroit and ended up with some nice shelter workers who contacted my new best friends at NBS Animal Rescue to help me find my fur-ever home. My foster dad says that I am a sweet and goofy boy who likes to wrestle my fluffy dog bed, carry around my foster brothers toys (he's a Great Dane - so they are almost as big as I am!) and go for walks. I'm a pretty easy going fella that enjoys spending time with my people, sniffing all of the smells in my foster homes fenced back yard, and snoozing on my foster mom's lap while she taps on the keys of her laptop.

I'm just as smart as I am handsome if I do say so myself. I love treats and I'm learning how to sit and come when my foster parents ask me to. I am also learning how to do my personal business outside. My foster dad say's I'm doing a good job of getting the hang of it but I sometimes have accidents still and will need a patient adoptive family who will help me continue to learn that good things happen when I potty outside. I get along well with most other mellow and friendly dogs both big and small, but would prefer not to hang around dogs who are super hyper, pushy, or dominant pretty please. I haven't met many kids or cats and my Foster Mom says that I would probably do best in a feline free home with a family that has kids 10+ years old. I would love a fenced in yard to romp in and play fetch with my family, but I think I'd do OK in a home without a fence if my family promised to take me on several walks a day on a leash. I would not be a good candidate for invisible fencing or an apartment/condo.

My friends at NBS Animal Rescue are helping me to find the perfect fur-ever home. All of the dogs in our rescue are have different personalities and needs within an adoptive home. Not all of my friends here at NBS Animal Rescue have the same requirements, so if I’m not be the perfect fit for your family- be sure to check out my other doggy friends too! For me?

These are the things I fur-sure need in my fur-ever home!
- Family who is gone no longer than 6 hour periods.
- Children must be 10yrs or older.
- No apartments, attached condos, or invisible fences please.

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
