My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mason is a charming adult male Pekingese. He has a silky non-shedding black coat with a white blaze, chest and beard. Mason is a little underweight at 9 pounds but he has a healthy appetite and should reach his 10-11 pound goal in no time. Mason arrived at the Safehouse on 05/04/2017 along with six of his brothers and sisters. His owner was unable to care for so many dogs. Based on the known ages of some of his brothers and sisters, we are guessing that Mason was born in 2010. He has lived a quiet sheltered life with many other doggy companions and is quite shy around people. A gentle, very loving little guy, he is learning that human affection is quite physical and he is beginning to understand being held and hugged can be nice. However, his new family must be willing to give him the time (weeks not hours) and (hands off) space he will need to adjust to a new home and love him enough to not be grabbing at him and constantly demanding that he live in their arms or sit in their lap; he’ll get there eventually if you give him a chance. Mason is housetrained to wee-wee pads and is doing very well in adjusting to “potty outside”. Having never worn a collar or harness, he does not know how to walk on leash; since all dogs need healthy exercise, going for walks will be a learning experience to be shared with his new family. Mason gets along with other small dogs, after all he has lived with his many brothers and sisters all his life and a home with another small companionable dog would be a bonus. More than likely, he would also do well with cats. A home with young children would be too overwhelming, but the calm attention of older children would be beneficial. Mason is healthy, neutered, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, and he has had a complete physical and dental. His adoption fee is $200
